Absolutely thrilled to share my experience from the Dubai Tech Talks' inaugural "Dubai Sustainability Talks". It was an evening filled with inspiring discussions and meaningful conversations about our collective journey towards achieving the SDGs2030. The event, hosted by Digital Value Stream, featured powerful insights from leaders in sustainability. Adrienne Doolan kicked off the evening with a powerful message on the urgency of achieving the SDG goals, emphasizing that we can drive positive change for a better future. Vikram Krishna and Monisha Krishna emphasised forest conservation through their Sacred Groves venture where they came up with a very unique way to conserve forest by giving people the opportunity to become guardians of a piece land in a forest. They have tokenised the land and it can be monitored using geospatial data and satellite imagery. The whole thing is fully transparent as it is done on a blockchain. Muhammad Danbappa highlighted how Ehfaaz is pioneering circular economy solutions with its innovative closed-loop resource recovery system, significantly reducing waste management costs and environmental impact while creating new value from unwanted materials. Ritika Angrish demonstrated how corporates are embracing repurposed interiors to promote sustainability, fostering a culture of creativity and environmental responsibility. Purva Grover emphasized the vital role of kids and youth in achieving the SDGs, encouraging eco-friendly habits and community engagement to inspire lasting change. Raisa Mariam Rajan showed us how art can contribute to sustainability by using eco-friendly materials and upcycling waste, blending creativity with environmental awareness. The passion shared by these speakers was incredibly motivating. It reinforced my belief in the power of collective effort and innovation in driving sustainability. 🌍 Reflections on Sustainability for COP29 🌱 For me, sustainability has always been more than just a buzzword—it's about the daily choices we make, whether at home, work, or within our communities. One challenge I’ve noticed is the struggle to balance sustainability with business priorities. For example, integrating eco-friendly practices in workplace operations often requires time, investment, and a mindset shift. However, I’ve learned that small steps—like reducing energy usage, embracing digital workflows, or encouraging team collaboration on green initiatives—can lead to meaningful change over time. As COP29 takes center stage, I can’t help but reflect on how sustainability has shaped my journey, especially during my time working at Expo 2020 Dubai. Dubai’s commitment to sustainability is not just a vision—it’s a reality I had the privilege to witness firsthand. From the Sustainability Pavilion (Terra) to initiatives promoting renewable energy and water conservation, Expo 2020 showcased how innovation and climate action can coexist to create a greener future. One moment that stood out for me was seeing the Solar Trees in action—these incredible structures that not only powered the pavilion but symbolized how technology can work harmoniously with nature. It was inspiring to be part of an event where every effort aligned with the goal of a sustainable future. This experience made me realize that change is possible, but it requires collective effort. We launched our annual sustainability report for the 12th year in succession, encompassing our operations and activities around the globe. Our Group CEO, Mr. Eugene Mayne, launched the Tristar 2023 Sustainability Report at our company’s head office in Jebel Ali which coincided with two events: celebration of World Environment Day and implementation of The Climate Fresk, a workshop that teaches fundamental science behind climate change. The report details our company's alignment with the UAE’s vision of achieving Net Zero by 2050 and enumerates all its actions towards upholding the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge spearheaded by the UAE’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), and the Faster Forward initiative launched by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). Our 12th consecutive report continues to adhere to global frameworks like the UNGC, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC), and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards for sustainability reporting.
