Today we are facing unprecedented challenges, and it seems like the right time to post this video. One dark night in Vietnam, I was monitoring the radio. I realized there was a recon unit near my position. Ten Marines (call sign DUCKBILL) were surrounded, low on ammunition, and about to be overrun. It was at night, visibility was low, and they were in imminent danger. I wanted to do something, but they were too far away for us to reach them. Fortunately, a helicopter piloted by my friend, John Arick (call sign KLONDIKE), was coordinating an attempt to land and extract the surrounded recon unit. When the mission ended I realized that I had captured the radio transmissions on a small tape recorder. One day I decided to make a video by combining the radio transmissions with photos of the types of aircraft involved in the mission. I believe that the challenges we face today call for us all to follow John Arick's example. We need to -- Maintain a cool, calming presence -- Be polite when things go wrong -- Add humor when facing danger -- Be tenacious in the face of adversity Thanks, John. Your courage lives on.
