Wilmslow Festive 10k - Chip 44:00 - PB! Delighted with this as it beat my previous 10k PB by 2 mins 19 seconds 🔥 My plan was to set off at 7:00 min miles and hold on for as long as possible. The cold weather definitely helped to keep the body temperature cool & fortunately my legs felt strong throughout and I was able to keep my splits consistent 💪🏻 Had to laugh at my watch showing 43:59 thinking that I'd dipped under 44 mins, only for the official chip time to say 44:00 flat. Guess I'll have to come back next year to try and get rid of that pesky second! 🤣 One of my personal goals at the start of 2023 was to get a PB across all 4 distances (Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k & 5k) I've ticked off 3/4 of them....Parkrun incoming over the next couple of weeks....watch this space 👀 #wilmslow10k #running #race #personalbest #goalsetting #goals

RECRUITERS - WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN RECRUITMENT AS A CAREER? 95% of people 'fall' into recruitment. Many didn’t know what it was before they were approached by an internal recruiter or a rec2rec. I certainly didn’t. I had no idea what the day-to-day activities would involve. We just ‘help people get jobs and get paid for it'. Sounds straightforward, right? 👀 So, if I didn’t know a lot about it and I didn’t really know a lot about what I was going to be doing on a daily basis, why did I agree to take an interview when I already had a pretty well-paid sales job? There were 3 things: 💰 Money 📈 Career Progression 🏖 Incentives In. That. Order. I loved the idea that I was the creator of my own destiny when it come to my earning potential. Uncapped commission enables me, as an 23-year-old, the opportunity to earn £50k/£70k/£90k or even £100k+ in a year! 🤑 I loved the idea that if I was to listen to the people who were more experienced than me and if I worked really f*cking hard & proved myself, that there would be opportunity for me to enhance my career to heights I previously didn’t think was possible. I wanted to make my family proud of what I did. 🚀 And finally, I loved the idea that if I achieved my targets, not only would I be paid well, but I would be treated to 5* lunch clubs that I wouldn’t be able to afford to go on my own. I would be taken to European cities I had never been to, and I could even have the chance to go on a Super Trip to worldwide destinations like Las Vegas. ✈ The things that I didn’t care about: ❌ What the hours were – I don’t care. I’ll do whatever it takes to be successful. ❌ How many holidays I get. ❌ How many days a week I can work from home on my own instead of surrounding myself with the very people who I want to learn from. ❌ What time is lunch. ❌ Burnout – I was working 65 hours a week in car sales – Recruitment is a piece of cake in comparison. I was also 23 years old with more energy than a Duracell battery! Recruitment isn’t a 9-5pm career & it amazes me how many recruiters are trying to force the idea that it is. 🙈 It’s one of the most rewarding, self-fulfilling careers you can have, if you’re good at it, but it’s also without doubt one of the most demanding sales careers you can take too. Unless you are ‘all in’, you may as well be ‘all out’. I’ve interviewed many people over the past 6 months who are underperforming, are miserable, but they are prioritizing the wrong benefits in recruitment & they don't actually know WHY they have a career in recruitment! The only thing that will genuinely make a recruiter happy, is by making placements, earning lots of money, enhancing their career and celebrating the wins. Everything else is fluff that you can get in most other careers. So why are you in recruitment, really? #recruitment #careers #lifechoices #hardthruths #techrecruitment #job #talentacquisition #agencyrecruitment #sales #recruiting

It’s been a pretty busy time at Amicus HQ over the past couple of weeks and this week is shaping up to be a belter too! 🏙 We’re delighted to welcome two brilliant additions to the team as we continue to drive the standards across the business to help ensure we’re delivering a world class service to our clients and candidates 🚀 Oliver Porter joins our Austin office as a Senior Consultant, tasked with supporting our clients with their #Cloud and #DevOps requirements across #Texas & #California. Ollie has almost 5 years tech recruitment experience and not only has he hit the ground running, demonstrating brilliant drive, sales skills, intensity to his work and huge ambition to succeed but he’s also a top lad (apart from being a Spurs fan!). Safe to say, we’re delighted to have you on board mate! 💙 Luke Smith joins our Manchester team, dedicated to helping businesses in #NYC and #Boston find the best ‘A-Players’ in the #Cloud & #DevOps space. Luke has around 4.5 years’ experience of finding niche software engineering talent for some of the best #tech businesses in the world, so I have no doubt he’ll smash his new market and we’ll be seeing him fly through the ranks in the coming years. 💥 Anyone who brings a big tub of Quality Street in for the team to share on their 2nd day is clearly a top lad with a good heart. 💙 We’re all made up you choose to join our team mate! We’ve also got another Senior figure joining the team next Monday too…..watch this space! 👀 But this week also has an extra bit of added flavour as we’re attending not one, but TWO award ceremonies tomorrow! 👊 One is in the day and the other is in the evening, so whilst we can attend both, I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing! 🍻🍾😷 We’ve been nominated for the following awards: British Recruitment Awards 💥 Agency Recruitment Team Of The Year 💥 Technology Recruitment Agency Of The Year Don't Panic Events - UK Business Tech Awards 💥 Best Tech Recruiter Good luck to all of those amazing businesses who are attending tomorrow 👏 Is it finally time for Amicus to become the bride instead of always being the bridesmaid? 🤣 Let’s hope so! 🙏 #hiring #techrecruitment #awards #recruiter #britrecawards #dontpanicevents #newstarters #careers #raisingstandards #ambition #nominated #technologyrecruitment

Agency Tech Recruiters - What are your billings in 2023? The general consensus across the tech recruitment industry was that 2022 was the golden year for being a tech recruiter. Those that 'made hay' in 2022 were able to produce some incredible billing figures and even those people who were inexperienced were throwing up £200-300k numbers. We saw examples of trainee consultants with less than 3 months experience throwing £30-40k months in like they were going out of fashion! The demand for tech skills were through the roof! Fast forward 12 months and I must have spoken to 75+ recruitment consultants in 2023 who are very quick to tell me how well they did in 2022 and 2021, but have pointed to 'economic restrictions' that have affected their billing performance this year. These consultants generally have anywhere between 1-3 years experience and I cant help think that their struggles are not down to the market, but just simply down to 'not knowing anything other than a hot market?' and not knowing what it takes to be successful in a 'normal' or 'cold' market. Through no fault of their own, they now have to change their habits, behaviours, processes and skillset because what they thought was 'hard work' that produced serious billing numbers in 2021/22, just simply isn't going to cut it in today's market. Those that are able to change their mindset, beliefs and skillset will thrive and still do really well - I spoke to a Senior Consultant recently who is on target to do £300k this year....in the UK market. Those that are unable or unwilling to do that, will likely leave the industry in the next 12 months. So I'm keen to know.....how is your 2023 going? What are you on target to bill in 2023? ***All votes remain completely confidential*** #techrecruitment #recruiterlife #recruitment

Scafell Pike ⛰ With no running races planned this weekend, what better thing to do than climb the highest mountain in England?! 🙈 Whilst I love running, there's something special about standing on top of a mountain, taking in the fresh air, clearing your mind and enjoying the incredible views for miles and miles. Although the view right at the top wasn't quite what I'd hoped for! ☁😂 My challenge for 2024 is to climb the 3 peaks in 24 hours....watch this space! 👀 #mindset #goalsetting #challenge #healthandwellbeing #mentalhealth #wellbeing #hiking #goals #reward

DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR GREAT-GRANDPARENTS NAMES WERE? I read something pretty sombre yesterday and it hit me like a tonne of bricks. "100 years from now, we will all be dead." Our parents will be dead. Our children will likely be dead. Our houses that we have spent so long to obtain will be owned by someone else. Our possessions and 'keep sakes' that we all cherish so dearly will be gone. And in the main, the world will have no record that we existed. Do you know who your grandparents parents were? What they did for a living? Or what they achieved in their lives? What about your great-great-grandparents? Doubtful. So in essence, we can assume the same about us. We're all pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things. So why is everyone so scared of failure? I see some people with huge potential in their lives, both personally and professionally, but they are frozen through fear of failure. You didn't achieve the weight loss target you aimed for this month? It's ok. You messed up a presentation at work? It's ok. Your relationship broke down and now you're single? It's ok. You didn't get the promotion you wanted this year? It's ok. You made a cold call and someone hung up on you? It's ok. You were rejected for that A* job you interviewed for? It's ok. Your new business failed in the first year? It's ok. The beauty about failure is there is always 'next time'. The reality is, we only have so many 'next times' and then we're done. So it's better to have a go and fail than wonder 'what if' right? Do you agree? #mentality #fearoffailure #procrastination #business #life #mentalhealth #haveago #noregrets #recruitment #techrecruitment

"YOU MISS 100% OF THE SHOTS YOU DON'T TAKE" After running the Chester Marathon last week, I've felt run down all week. My body ached, I've had flu-lile symptoms & I've felt generally unwell. 😷 So the idea of running a half marathon in Manchester this weekend was far from ideal. I spent the week convincing myself that I can't do it. I offered my place to a friend who runs a lot but he wasn't available to run it. I knew it would be a slog. My body was tired, my mind was tired. It's going to be freezing cold on a Sunday morning. 🥶 The thought of a warm bed with a brew was much more comforting. 🛌 But on Saturday night, I lay in bed and thought 'What's the worst that can happen?' So I agreed to do it. 'Just get around, get my medal & go home'. I said. I dragged myself out of bed at 6am & headed off to the race. 😴 When I arrived and I was warming up, a little voice in my mind said: 'We're here now - let's just go for it!' My mindset instantly changed. 🧠 I set off at a PB pace..... 'Hold it' I kept telling myself. And I did! Mile 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12...... I was churning out mile after mile at a faster pace than I've ever ran. 🏃 Home straight..... Finished! Wow! 1:37:05 💥 A monster PB by 6 minutes! 💪🏻 To think that I nearly didn't even try! You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. If you're avoiding an activity or shot and you're unsure if you'll land it...take it! After all, what's the worst that can happen? #mondaymotivation #mcrhalf #running #justtry #recruitment #techrecruitment #newpb #motivation
