The Adaptation Committee has published the 2025 Progress Report on adapting to climate change. We find that the country is not prepared for climate impacts. There are clear risks across our society, including hospitals, care homes, and schools. Not only are we not seeing action, we're not seeing plans or policies to take action in the future. The Adaptation Committee is required to review the UK’s progress on adaptation every two years. The vast majority of the assessment outcomes for the 2025 report have the same low scores as in 2023. In terms of adaptation delivery, we do not find evidence to score a single outcome as ‘good’. Read the report or watch our summary video: https://lnkd.in/eQspPmcW
Yes, a slow death by inquiry, report; oh and let’s have yet another one! Can down the road, long grass etc. all part of the chronic decline of UK Ltd.
Sobering. In my experience, it seems we have trouble going beyond reports. We need bold leadership, cross-sector collaboration, and properly resourced action, sooner rather than later.
Local Councils engage with every one of UK’s the 70m residents and 6m businesses plus they control planning and certain pension funds. The opportunity is there to quickly leverage the influence and reach of local authorities to achieve in Climate Change through a UK Climate Statutory Duty. But it HAS to be visionary, ambitious and get the buy in of all political parties. This nascent project is worth supporting https://climatestatutoryduty.uk/wp/2025/04/09/the-leadership-dividend-how-local-authority-economic-power-can-deliver-net-zero-and-resilient-prosperity/

Thank you for quoting our work! 💚 🌎 In the 2023 Action Scorecards, we found that only 27% of English councils have climate risk registers. We will publish our updated analysis in June 2025. https://councilclimatescorecards.uk/
