Below is the note I sent to KeyBank teammates this weekend following the tragic mass shooting in Buffalo, New York. I remain committed to continuing to speak out and taking meaningful action against racism, injustice, and violence in our communities: Team, This weekend, our country witnessed yet another senseless act of violence in Buffalo, New York, resulting in ten innocent lives lost and three wounded. Emerging reports indicate that the attack is being investigated as a racially motivated hate crime. On behalf of Key, our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims. To honor their memories and their legacies, I am announcing a $250,000 grant from the KeyBank Foundation to support the victims’ families. Next week, we will amplify the grant by offering a 2:1 employee match program. While a crime committed anywhere calls for justice, I know this attack is especially painful for our teammates in Buffalo. I have come to know and admire the people of this great city and I know that their strength and resilience will sustain them. We stand with them, today and every day. To our Teammates of Color – I know that I cannot fully understand the emotion and frustration you must be feeling. You have my commitment to continue to be your ally, to listen to your experiences, and to respond to your concerns as we work together for a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture – in our company and in the communities we so proudly serve. At Key, we have prioritized mental wellness as part of a wide-ranging suite of benefits. Our teammates have access to The Live Well & Thrive Program, which provides free counseling services and referrals to local community resources through a 24-hour crisis line. As I’ve said before, you have my commitment that Key will continue to be part of the discourse and change that is needed in our communities and in our country. Chris
KeyBank continues to not answer my dispute on evidence that merchants midas 601 automotive and locksmith Johnathon noble of Dayton Ohio. I gave KEYBANK’s fraud team compelling evidence that qualifies my disputed to be labeled as fraud but because I’m black and persistent to file numerous complaints against KEYBANK’s fraud dept, KEYBANK staff have deliberately labeled my disputes as non-fraud despite its own policy on fraud issues have no time limit to file disputes. By KEYBANK labeling my disputes as no - fraud, KEYBANK in cahoots with numerous merchants found a way to deny consumers and bank clients the justice and funds a person is entitled to. Even after filing my disputes at KEYBANK, KEYBANK has been allowing merchants to keep funds merchants stole using fraudulent concealment and many other forms of fraud while the merchants never even responded to any disputes which under KEYBANK’s policy would automatically be in favor of person filing dispute winning by default. A lot of bank clients at KEYBANK don’t understand their rights in disputes which transcends to chargebacks where a person can get their funds back. KeyBank has not presented 1 scintilla of evidence to prove my debit card disputes are not fraud classified.
You are a considerate and compassionate man. Prayers that more leaders like you rise up and speak out.
How about addressing the pay discrepancies of your current employees of color first? Or regarding violence: the lack of protection at branches? Multiple employees have been shot. After months of begging, it took THREE assaults of an employee to get security at my previous branch. The security was removed not long after which resulted in the employee's cars being broken into. We hear your message and I'm happy to see progression, but this feels more like a PR stunt than general concern.
Thank you for your leadership and speaking out in support of our Communities and Teammates! United we Stand #keybank
I too feel for the losses that have happened. I will continue to pray for them and any other communities that continue to have and experience such outrage. My heart goes out to you and your families ❤️🩹
We have to stop gun violence and racially motivated hate crimes.
This is awesome 👏 #keybank
Thanks for not being quiet about this, Chris.
Thank you. You have brought light and hope to a situation of hate and ugliness. We need to drown out the voices of violence and hate. This is a great start.

2yHi Chris, I'm not convinced that KeyBank works together for a more diverse and equitable inclusive culture. Here is why I say this: My husband and I applied for a loan through KeyBank and what was promised by the Montfort Heights Ohio Branch to be 2 day approval turned into over 3 weeks of pure HELL... KeyBank demonstrated several racial inequalities against us in trying to prevent access to secure a loan. This uphill battle we faced with your Branch Manager Mark, loan officer Jeremy, and Underwriters and their continuous fishing for a reason to say no and asking for new information and sometimes the same information they were already given at the time of applying for the loan. 2. The Branch manager, loan officer's failure to review documents that were submitted at the time of loan application intentionally causing delay in processing along with causing frustration, 3. Loan officer completely stopped communicating and ignoring our concerns and phone calls, 4. Loan officer becoming very argumentative and speaking to us with a very harsh attitude In all of these unfair practices, I contacted your office, Executive Client Relations and filed a complaint. Julia told me she would put a rush on our loan to only prolong process.
