Hello everyone. I have resigned from Xbox and from Microsoft, and my last day is today, the 19th! I started at Xbox in November of 2002, so after nearly 20 years I know this news can either come as a surprise, or as expected. It’s a mix of both! I have loved my time with Xbox. Building end-to-end experiences for gamers is a privilege. There are very few things one gets to work on in life which evoke such passion in people around the world. I adore listening to gamers and envisioning that next moment of unexpected delight. Gaming is amazing. Xbox will always be with me. My journey has a period of reflection and rest in its immediate future—one I promised myself a few years ago after a significant event outside of work. I’m going to spend some time doing a life and design tour everywhere I can. If you want to collaborate and chat design, games, or product please reach out (no matter the industry!). I’ve found that the best things I’ve seen or done in games have sparked from other areas, and I want to lean into that in a big way. I will always root for Xbox, for user-centered process, and most importantly for the voices of countless gamers around the world looking for ways to connect to one another and the games they love. They are who we really work for! -Chris #design #gaming #xbox #videogames #userexperience #microsoft

I woke up this morning to hundreds of DM's from throughout the industry, and the warmest outpouring of notes possible. Thank you. I am spending today with a very large cup of coffee and will be responding to everyone. It may take a little bit, but know that a response is on its way ;-).

From the moment we met I knew you were one of the smartest and hardworking young people I’d ever met. Your desire to go the extra mile to make a game great was extraordinary. I’m grateful for the time we shared working together and those epic trips to LeMans, NASCAR and Indy Events. You were like a kid in a candy store at LeMans, pretty sure you didn’t sleep the entire time there. Wishing you only the very best and enjoy that cup of coffee.

Major milestone in life and a beginning of an amazing new chapter that you get to design and produce. I'm excited for you, Chris. Timing is right, isn't it? It's also the beginning of a BBQ season. 😁 It was my pleasure having a chance to work with you, Chris. Hope you get to spend lots of time with friends & family, enjoy life and then go make it happen (whatever *it* is for you).

Chris, you were so important to everything that went well in Xbox. Working with you and befriending you was a massive highlight. Everything you touched, got better. I can't wait to see what you do next. In the meantime, enjoy your beautiful family and take time to breathe!!

Chris, I have always enjoyed working with you - you are a true leader in this space. I wish you well and hope we can cross paths again in the future.

Enjoy the well deserved break Chris! You’ve had a heck of a run at Microsoft and leading the Xbox design and research team. Project Scarlett was a defining moment for Xbox and I will certainly miss partnering together. Gaming experience innovation requires hw+sw to be seamless and integral. All the best to you and let’s catch up on design, gaming and cars. ;)

Big walls full of whiteboarding, post-its and then leaf-blowing them away will always be a core memory hah. Thanks for everything Chris! Grateful for all the opportunities, mentorship and awesome projects. Hope you'll have a good break. Till our paths will cross again!

Hero!!! It's all a tiny town, so I'm sure we'll meet around the block :) I love your dedication to an intentionally designed next phase of life! Fortunately, UE5 just released :)

Congrats Chris Novak and I would love to chat with you sometime soon about your journey at Xbox, share my experience and stories and set experience making live action projects come to life in the Pacific Northwest and maybe get some insight and fun how I could work with people like you. Also discussions about my dream to transition over as well into the world of Xbox and gaming industry and bring some new blood into the mix and design that hasn’t been done. Always been a dream and goal of mine since LAN parties of Halo back in 2002-2007 and playing all sorts of online gaming experiences as well as film and media experiences thanks to Xbox live. Cheers - Collin
