💫 Our support for grassroots organizations goes far beyond funding. One of our favorite findings from our recent Global Impact Study was that our local partners felt like GFC was an extension of their team. That we were there to provide training, networks, advice, and guidance on top of our funding commitments, whenever it was needed most. This approach is what enables us to work in true partnership with organizations, standing alongside them as they create lasting change for children and youth. 💪💛 Read the full Global Impact Study. ➡️ https://bit.ly/48QxI4Y #GlobalImpactStudy #FlexibleFunding #GlobalFundForChildren #Grassroots

At Global Fund for Children, we’re proud to say we’re doing things differently. Too often, traditional funders rely on burdonsome models, distributing grants in ways that serve their systems not the people they’re meant to support. From asking grassroots organizations to apply for funding in unfamiliar languages, requiring countless hours of reporting, dictating how funds must be spent, and ultimately overlooking the local leaders who understand their communities best. ❌ We know there is a better way. When we fund grassroots organizations, we start from a place of trust and respect. Our partners know what their communities need, and how to create lasting change. That’s why every grant we distribute is flexible and unrestricted, empowering organizations to use resources where they’ll have the greatest impact. 🙌 Learn more about the impact of our approach to funding through our recent Global Impact Study. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eGV9dAVF #GlobalImpactStudy #GlobalFundForChildren #FlexibleFunding #CommunityLed

There are some powerful shifts happening in the development sector! It’s encouraging to see trust-based funding on the rise, putting power in the hands of communities and creating space for conversation, connection and mutual learning. We’ve had so many conversations about power dynamics at educate., and the ways in which they so often center donor priorities and frameworks over local knowledge and needs. We’ve also witnessed the incredible opportunities that open up when donor organizations - like Global Fund for Children - truly center local organizations’ knowledge and experience from the start.

🌿 Announcing 24 Youth-Led Grants for Indigenous Health & Wellness! 🌿 We’re thrilled to announce the awarding of 24 grants through the Indigenous Futures Fund—a partnership between Novo Nordisk US, Newman's Own Foundation, and Native Americans in Philanthropy. What makes this initiative truly unique? 👉 Native youth (aged 18–24) led the grantmaking process—identifying priorities, evaluating proposals, and guiding funding decisions based on their lived experience and community needs. Their leadership ensures that each grant supports Indigenous approaches to health, wellbeing, and wellness, rooted in culture, resilience, and community-driven solutions. As one Native youth leader shared: “The spark for the ITF is a belief in the wisdom, creativity and vision of young people in a landscape that historically overlooks their power. It’s our vision of reimagining how resources move to communities in ways that honour self-determination and intergenerational knowledge.” This is more than philanthropy. It’s a commitment to trusting youth, centering Indigenous voices, and building futures led by those who live them. As fiduciaries, nonprofit boards have an ethical obligation to the organizations they serve. When it comes to investing institutional assets, this can mean seeking not only a competitive return, but also investing to help advance the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Community foundations have a deep understanding of local needs and are uniquely positioned to meet them. They have historically focused on grantmaking, but more and more of them are tapping the power of impact investments to expand their work. In 2024, our team allocated $21M to support community foundations on their impact investing journeys. Thus far, we have made three separate $5M loans and additional companion grants to the @Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, the @Greater Cincinnati Foundation, and the @Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation. Each of these loans will support community development and drive economic mobility for residents, hopefully leading to sustainable, lasting change in the places they serve.
