Heute haben wir auf der Handelsblatt Circular Economy Konferenz die wichtige Frage diskutiert, wie Gesellschaft und Industrie die Transformation zu einer #Kreislaufwirtschaft gemeinsam bewältigen können. Dabei war unter anderem auch NRW-Wirtschaftsministerin Mona Neubaur.   Die Herausforderung, Materialien so lange wie möglich im Wirtschaftskreislauf zu halten, betrifft uns alle - und dabei geht es um viel mehr als um Plastik. Bei Henkel wollen wir auch in diesem Feld eine Vorreiterrolle einnehmen und wir haben uns ambitionierte Ziele gesetzt. Als Hersteller von vielen bekannten Konsumgütern gibt es hier viele Ansatzpunkte. Aber auch als Weltmarktführer für Klebstoffe, Dichtstoffe und Beschichtungen einen entscheidenden Beitrag zu einer Kreislaufwirtschaft im industriellen Umfeld leisten. Wie wir das konkret tun, was wir bereits erreicht haben, und warum Unternehmen, Verbraucher, Handel und auch die Politik noch besser zusammenarbeiten müssen, um diese große Herausforderung anzugehen, darüber habe ich heute beim Handelsblatt gesprochen.   Danke für den Austausch, Kevin Knitterscheidt, Bert Fröndhoff und Handelsblatt Media Group. 

As part of our strategic growth agenda, we are pursuing targeted #acquisitions to actively shape and strengthen our portfolio. Today, I am happy to share that Henkel signed an agreement to acquire the established hair care brand Vidal Sassoon in Greater China. The brand generated around 200 million euros sales in its last business year.   The transaction provides the opportunity for our Henkel Consumer Brands business to create further scale in one of our core categories in China - an attractive, growing market.   Great accomplishment from our teams! Globale Krisen von der Ukraine, über den Nahen Osten bis zu Taiwan, innovative Technologien wie #KI, die unser Leben und Arbeiten tiefgreifend verändern, und gesellschaftliche Spannungen wie aktuell in Deutschland rund um das Erstarken nationalistischer und rechtsextremer Gruppierungen – die Rahmenbedingen zum Jahresauftakt 2024 sind so vielfältig und herausfordernd wie nie zuvor. All diese Themen standen beim Welt–Wirtschaftsgipfel #WWG24 auf der Agenda. Auch in diesem Jahr wieder ein echtes Highlight mit Teilnehmenden aus Politik, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft, darunter EU-Kommissionspräsidentin Ursula von der Leyen, Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz, Bundesfinanzminister Christian Lindner, Wirtschaftsminister Robert Habeck, CDU-Parteivorsitzender Friedrich Merz oder Aleph Alpha-Gründer Jonas Andrulis, um nur einige zu nennen. Im Zentrum der Diskussionen stand die Frage, wie Deutschland sich auf die Herausforderungen der Zukunft einstellen kann und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit sowie Wachstumsdynamik unseres Landes deutlich gefördert werden können. Offenheit für Innovationen, klare strategische Prioritäten, Leistungswillen und die Bereitschaft zu Veränderungen werden dabei entscheidend sein. Genauso wie das klare Bekenntnis zu #Demokratie, Weltoffenheit und #Toleranz – das von allen Teilnehmern des Gipfels als Grundlage unserer Gesellschaft bekräftigt wurde.

Am vergangenen Wochenende haben Hunderttausende in vielen deutschen Städten ein deutliches Zeichen gegen Rechtsextremismus und Fremdenhass gesetzt. Das hat mich sehr beeindruckt. Denn eins ist klar: Wir brauchen jetzt klare Haltung und Geschlossenheit!   Bei Henkel arbeiten Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter aus über 120 Nationen. Vielfalt, Toleranz und Respekt sind die Grundlage für unser Zusammenleben und unseren Erfolg. Das gilt für unser Unternehmen ebenso wie für das Miteinander in unserem Land. Dafür stehen wir, und dafür stehe ich.   Zu Beginn des Jahres habe ich hier auf LinkedIn geschrieben, dass 2024 ein Jahr der Demokratie werden sollte. Nach den Entwicklungen der letzten Tage ist dieser Wunsch wichtiger und aktueller denn je. Wir alle haben eine Stimme für unsere Zukunft und wir alle haben die Wahl – gegen Extremismus und Nationalismus. Over the past weekend, hundreds of thousands in many German cities have made a clear statement against right-wing extremism and hostility towards foreigners. This has deeply impressed me. Because one thing is clear: We need clear stance and unity now!   At Henkel, employees from over 120 nations work together. Diversity, tolerance, and respect are the foundation for our collaboration and success. This holds true for both our company as well as the way we live together in our country. This is what we stand for, and this is what I stand for.   At the beginning of the year, I asked for 2024 to be a year of democracy, here on LinkedIn. After the developments of the last days, this wish is even more important and relevant than ever. We all have a voice for our future, and we all have the choice – against extremism and nationalism. I’m proud and happy to share that we will introduce a new global benefit for our employees. Starting in 2024, we will implement a gender-neutral parental leave minimum standard for everyone at Henkel. In concrete terms, this means that all parents-to-be, regardless of gender, biological or adoptive parents, or family constellation, can take 8 weeks of fully paid parental leave after bringing a child into the family. By doing so, we will support parents in sharing childcare responsibilities equally and breaking free from stereotyped gender roles. By the way, Henkel will be the first German DAX40 company to do so. I'm proud that we are actively embodying our commitment to #diversity, #equity, and #inclusion. Thanks, Sylvie Nicol, for leading this initiative, and to all my Board colleagues for wholeheartedly supporting it. Fully agree, Carsten. The positive reputation of Henkel is a source of pride for all Henkelaners as I know from my conversations with colleagues around the world. It´s great to see this reflected in latest rankings. A positive reputation depends on “doing the right things” and communicating them successfully. Seeing Henkel climbing in these ratings is a great accomplishment and motivates us to continue move ahead, driven by our purpose to act as pioneers at heart for the good of generations. #WeAreHenkel

I hope you all have had a good start to the new year.   2024 will be a special year, not only for us at Henkel, but also on a global scale. Can we continue to drive the green #transformation in the face of rapidly changing climate conditions? Will it be able to find peaceful solutions for wars and military conflicts, overcome political tensions to work together on the challenges ahead? Or will we see global rifts between nations, religions and political views deepen? Can we get a grip on inflation, rising prices and re-energize economic growth? And how will the rise of #AI change the way we live and work?    These are the questions for governments and political leaders around the world. And as The Economist points out, 2024 is also a pivotal year because more than half of the world’s population will vote in over 70 elections – making 2024 the biggest election year in history.    I sincerely wish that this will be a year of democracy, resisting the trend towards political extremism, populism, and nationalism. We need to understand the power and benefits of #democracy. And I am convinced that prosperity and better living conditions for a growing global population is one of them. We all have a vote on our future. Let´s make use of it.

As the holiday spirit comes to our Henkel campus, we recognize that another year is coming to an end. Taking a break from busy schedules sounds simple, but sometimes I feel it is not easy to live up to it. I know, at times, it can be difficult to switch off. But doing so is important. Stepping back and spending precious time with family, and friends, reflecting on what was good and what we can be grateful for, is so valuable – and also helps us to recharge our batteries and return even more energized and inspired afterwards in 2024. With that in mind, I wish all of you a happy holiday season, and a healthy, peaceful New Year!
