A very engaging workshop in #Vientiane today! To transform from a land-locked to a land-linked economy, #Laos has focused on infrastructure development to promote connectivity. The opening of the Lao-China railway and the Thanaleng Dry Port have provided a boost to the transport and logistics sector. Yet, a number of challenges persist to tap the potential of higher value added private investment opportunities. With the ambition of becoming carbon-neutral by 2050, Laos is prioritizing low-carbon economic activities – #climatesmartagriculture / agribusiness and #renewableenergy present excellent opportunities. Thanks to the active collaboration with the Ministry of Planning & Investment (MPI)’s Investment Promotion Department (IPD), #IFC’ Creating Markets Advidory (CMA) engaged with a wide range of stakeholders in #Vientiane today to brainstorm these opportunities. #climatesolutions #creatingopportunities Phongsavanh Phomkong Khampao Nanthavong

Very proud of IFC’s role in launching Timor-Leste’s first public-private partnership (PPP) to build a state-of-the-art port outside of the capital city of Dili. The port already has directly created about 500 jobs and will contribute indirectly to even more jobs. It will also serve as a key ingredient in advancing trade and investment for this island-nation and for the region.
