Barbara Harvey’s Post
Will the post-pandemic world take us further from gender equality, or bring us closer to it? Our choices today could change the outcome by 100 years. After ten months of discussion and research with the most amazing W20 delegates and my colleagues Dominic King and Juliana Azuero Guerrero and Jonathan Thomas and the whole team at Accenture Research we will have the honour of presenting our findings at the W20 Summit on 21st-22nd October. We'll also be joined by the extraordinary Maliha Hashmi whose personal story says more than any research can about why gender equality matters to the world we live in and to our future. Please register at https://lnkd.in/dvgKkan for the W20 summit and join our session at 2.35pm UK (4.35pm KSA) Weds October 21st. I can speak firsthand to the extraordinary increase in the volume of texters seeking help. People of all ages come, often in crisis and with no-one else to turn to, and have the chance to 'talk' things over with someone who won't judge, won't direct but who will listen and be there for them. It's a very flexible way to offer your time and the training and support is outstanding. #volunteering #mentalhealth #suicideprevention
In January, a user generated TikTok encouraging people to text our Shout service led to demand for the service tripling, with volunteers taking 5,200 conversations in one day. We saw a sustained increase in conversations over the following weeks, primarily from children and young people and most frequently at night: ➡ Majority of texters were aged under 18 ➡ 19% of texters were aged 13 and under, up from 6% the previous week ➡ Conversations peaked between 9-11pm and continued into the early morning ➡ Depression and anxiety were main issues, while conversations about bullying tripled In our latest blog, our Senior Clinical Advisor, Dr Fiona Pienaar, explores this trend and offers advice on how to manage families’ usage of devices and social media at night > https://lnkd.in/e7nkAzAw #socialmedia #mentalhealthawareness #wellbeing #parentingadvice #sleepwell #sleep #youngpeople #teenagers #youthmentalhealth
Decisions made today by the UK Government mean that anyone over 18 won’t be protected from all harmful suicide or self-harm content on most sites across the internet. This isn’t good enough. Everyone deserves to be safe online - we’ll keep going until they are. Read more: https://bit.ly/34OFVYW
Early intervention for psychosis can make a huge difference to recovery yet so many people are afraid and ignore the signs. This wonderful story will encourage others to seek advice. #mentalhealthawareness
📢 Meet Alika, he experienced a psychotic episode at 21, got support, and is now producing and performing his own music. Treating a psychotic episode early can change lives. Read Alika's story 👉 https://bit.ly/3JmWyKl #MyPsychosisStory

All my years of research show how women are disproportionately affected in times of trouble; be that economic downturns, pandemics or war. So I loved this article about how we can target help to ensure it reaches women too. #iwd2022 W20

The right thing to do absolutely. My thoughts are with all who suffer as a result of the aggression wherever they are in the world.
I'm proud to work for Accenture and support this bold move. I support and applaud the moves of BP, Shell and others. Equally I feel great concern for colleagues in Russia who work so hard and perform so well for our clients, and certainly wouldn't want these events to be unfolding. My thoughts are with colleagues in Ukraine and Russia, and in all of the bordering countries that are being directly impacted. There are no winners in war. Innocent people lose on all sides.
This month I took on the 10,000 steps a day challenge to raise money that will train new volunteers on the Shout crisis line. So far I have walked 340,231 steps (or about 70 miles). In these troubled times everyone needs someone they can turn to and that's what Shout aims to be - a port in a storm. #getoutforshout #mentalhealth #suicideprevention A thousand thanks to those who have supported me and kept me company through the wind, hail, mud and sunshine. Three more days to go!! https://lnkd.in/diqdNruG

I am happy to see this step, but I really hope that there is a full understanding of how big the gap in crisis care is right now. And it needs to be tied back to effective long-term interventions and not be a one-off. #mentalhealth #suicideprevention Tom McLaughlan one for you to look at...
🗣 'Patients who are in need of urgent support will be seen by crisis teams within a day under proposals to improve timely access to care.' Quick access to care is vital for long term outcomes for people living with severe mental illness 👇 https://lnkd.in/ea2iEhaH
