🚀 Behind The Scenes - AI Innovation @ Busuu 🚀 Two years (!) ago, we gathered the team for a week-long design sprint with one big challenge: ➡️ How can we harness AI to solve our language learners’ #1 pain point - practicing speaking? That sprint was the spark that lit the path for everything that followed. From those early sketches and prototypes came ‘AI Conversations’ and ‘AI Speaking Practice’, two features that transformed how users build real-world confidence 🗣️ Now, I’m thrilled that our newest AI feature, ‘Mistake Repair’, is finally out in the wild 🥳🪄 This newest addition completes the loop - creating a holistic, personalised, and adaptive learning experience. Most language apps today focus on a single aspect of learning — some emphasize vocabulary, others focus on pronunciation, or conversation. This fragmented approach helps in the short term, but it often prevents learners from developing a balanced language intuition. That’s why Peanut was built differently. Instead of teaching “conversation practice,” Peanut helps users internalize the entire system of language — vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, comprehension, and sentence flow — within one continuous, structured learning loop. In my last post, I shared some thoughts on AI apps for language learning, and mentioned what the human factor brings to the process. Let me share a quick story that shows what I mean. I once worked with a client who was fluent in English but nervous whenever he had to present at international conferences. His slides were solid, his vocabulary advanced — but the delivery didn’t land. He rushed through, avoided eye contact, and his nerves made the whole presentation feel flat. No AI app would have spotted that. On screen, everything looked fine. But in the room, the real challenge was confidence and connection. Together, we worked not just on words, but on presence. We practised pausing. We used body language. We shaped his stories so they resonated. Little by little, he became calmer, more engaging — and eventually, much more persuasive. The most wonderful part was that he even started enjoying presenting, something he once thought impossible. That’s the kind of growth no app can offer. Apps are brilliant for practice, but they can’t adapt to your personality, your culture, or your professional world. And they can’t give you encouragement on the days you need it most, when your confidence has taken a knock. AI is a tool.
