How can local authorities leverage crowdfunding to finance #netzero solutions? 💷 🌻
Donal Brown and I recently explored this question with members of Lewes District Council and Eastbourne Borough Council as part of the Net Zero Innovation Programme, convened by Local Government Association and UCL.
The attached report explores workshop findings on investment-based crowdfunding for energy projects, and donation-based crowdfunding for nature-based solutions.
Opportunities and barriers to implementing these models are identified, as well as the role the council can play in moving these solutions forward. ✅
Lewes and Eastbourne have since become one of the first 5 councils to sign up to the Green Finance Institute Local Climate Bond Pledge, committing to issuing a bond or related municipal investment in the 18 months following #COP26. Great to see such progress! 🎉
