Terminated from Wayfair while on disability On January 19, 2024 at about 7:00 am, while getting ready to head to my chemotherapy treatment I received a message from a friend, “were you impacted by the Wayfair terminations”. I was shocked by this question and quickly responded “can I be terminated while I am on disability”. To my shock and horror I was in fact terminated - email sent to my work email which I frankly do not check frequently as am not at work. I had so many questions. I’ll admit I, and possibly every other Wayfair employee, had started questioning the integrity of Wayfair’s leadership after seeing Nirajs email to staff in the news - https://lnkd.in/ggQsQkdk - where he gaslighted staff, essentially suggesting that ambitious people must work long hours and find ways to blend work and life, that to do anything but was lazy. I wondered what kind of human being would think this let alone publish it. Thankfully my expectations took a nose dive which would serve to blunt some of the despair and disappointment I felt from my termination. To make a bad situation worse, I was not sent the actual termination letter until several hours after that initial email, which was really an invitation to a meeting for staff who had been impacted. To say this raised my anxiety would be an understatement. I kid you not my blood pressure which is always normal, despite stage 4, was the highest I can recall and my resting heart rate the highest on record. When the termination letter finally came later that afternoon, it did not address my unique circumstances, which meant I had to arrange a meeting with HR for the following week. I had to suffer through the weekend. And if that wasn’t bad enough, I would later come to find that my situation was not even contemplated. HR did not have the answer to my most pressing concern - what would happen to my disability? Imagine that... I was simply a number on a balance sheet. The small matter of my stage 4 diagnosis and me fighting for my life did not matter. That I did not choose this and I am a human being did not matter. That my health insurance is most critical at this time did not matter. That I am unemployable did not matter. Niraj’isms aside, please know careers are fickle and the most important ambition should be a successful family and personal life. In the end, we are all disposable assets to our jobs, numbers on a balance sheet. I have shared my picture so you can see me unfiltered - a woman with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer fighting for her life - no eyelashes, no eyebrows, no hair, burnt skin, swollen from steroids. A real human person not a role to be fillled. And as much as Wayfair would seemingly want to kill me please know that I won’t stop fighting. My life matters. I am a child of God, I am loved and I am worthy. Please share my story to raise awareness. #wayfair #breastcancerawareness
Hey everyone thanks for your support. I will be taking a beat to decide my exact next steps…away from the noise and chaos. I won’t be on here for awhile as I retreat into stillness and communion with God. I wanted to raise awareness and I’ve done what I can do. My priority is to get better and despite the financial aspect to me getting better there is also my mental well being and remaining as stress free as possible. I would love to change the world but now is not the time. So I’ll do what I do and take it to my maker. God bless all of you!
I have now identified counsel, based on referrals from people like yourselves and just going with my gut on who feels right - thank you for contributing to my GoFundMe I am still a little ways off my target - https://gofund.me/a8d7f69f
Can we get a GoFundMe set up to hire legal help to file against Wayfair in the Ontario Labour Board? All you have to do is make the allegation that the real cause is your circumstance. The burden of proof is somewhat shifted to them to now produce compelling evidence to the contrary. If they don't, an adverse inference can be made. I should warn you that litigation is a stressful route. I've done it with and without legal help and the stress is just about the same. That said, this is a massive injustice and I'd hate to see them get away with it. God bless you in your recovery.
I wish you a full recovery. There are very few companies and people in position of leadship that have a heart for people. Never take your position for granted and as much as possible try and have an exit strategy or alternative sources of income. You shouldn't have to suffer this tragedy while critically ill ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
This is an unimaginable thought and the fact you're actively on LTD to battle such an aggressive disease. I'm praying for you in all aspects as you continue to fight for you life Andrena 🙏🏽. You definitely should look into the legal aspect of the HR team really bad no recommendations on next steps given your unique situation as it relates to continued Healthcare and LTD coverages. I pray there will be a favorable outcome for you as you continue this fight.
I had no idea you were still battling this horrible disease. I hope you have had the energy to connect with a good lawyer who can champion your situation and allow you to focus on your recovery as best you can. Wayfair is not who I thought of them a few years ago given the insensitive admonishment of their millionaire CEO and the brutal treatment of amazing people like you.
Is there a funding page or anything set up? How can we help in the meantime?
Once the disability is approved according to the company’s guidelines, it is illegal for that entity to fire an employee.
My dear sister Andrena - I feel your pain and hurt. Know this - GOD is able. We continue to pray for you and support you in every way possible. We are confident that for every disappointment there is an appointment and GOD will make a way.

1moFor everyone who has asked how they can help, first of all if you’re in a position of leadership please don’t do this to anyone and perhaps create a policy against this. Secondly, here is a link to my GoFundMe campaign - https://gofund.me/6545f3ec . As they say in Jamaica - every mickle makes a muckle. Thanks so much.
