Carlos is a recognised global leader in sustainability, currently serving as Senior Fellow at Conservation International, Ambassador of the Mangrove Breakthrough, Colombian Representative of the Adam Smith Center and Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum’s Task Force on Nature Positive Cities. As Colombia’s Minister of Environment (2020–2022), he spearheaded the Climate Action Law, the Colombian Carbon Neutrality Programme, and the Green Taxonomy, while leading efforts that expanded protected areas to 34% of national territory—eight years ahead of target. He also launched large-scale restoration programmes, including 180 million trees and One Million Corals for Colombia.
