Hailey Parker, an Air Force veteran and college graduate, is a testament to how the power of strong benefits attracts exceptional women to work in the building trades. Hailey had plenty of other career options open to her when she chose to take an electrical apprenticeship with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 43 in Syracuse. “I was looking for my next step and [realized] neither of those things have a guaranteed job outcome ― and they don't have insurance. When I figured out the union had that, I was all about it.” Segal is proud to share Hailey’s story in our latest video spotlighting women apprentices and what drew them to their union jobs, shedding light on how the building trades can better attract and retain tradeswomen to help solve the skilled labor shortage. “I chose the apprenticeship because I saw better outcomes and I saw a chance to pave my own path, so that’s what I did,” Hailey adds. “And I think I'm doing a pretty good job of it.” Watch the video for her full story. “The way I look at it is you put one foot in front of the other with this program and your future is set for you.” So says second-year apprentice Andrea Zajkowski about her apprenticeship experience with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 43 of Central New York. Andrea is featured in this week’s women apprentice spotlight series as our Segal team prepares to attend the North America's Building Trades Unions-hosted Tradeswomen Build Nations (TWBN), the largest gathering of tradeswomen in the world, December 1-3 in Washington, DC. “We get pension annuity, health insurance. Brothers & Sisters- Veterans Day is a very special day for the brave men and women who have stood up to protect our country, our rights, our families and our freedom. They have entered dangerous territory, faced enemies and served as ambassadors for our country. It takes a selfless and strong person to volunteer to serve in the armed forces. IBEW Local 43 is fortunate to have many past and present veteran members and owes each of them a debt of gratitude. Thank You all for your faithful service! #America Strong 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Brothers & Sisters: I want to wish you and your families a safe, restful, and happy Labor Day weekend! Each year, Labor Day is also a time for reflection. Please take a minute to remember all the men and women of the labor movement who risked their jobs and their lives to fight for the weekend, the 40-hour work week, secure wages and benefits that working families deserve, that we may often take for granted today.
