As the World Economic Forum 2025 came to a close today, I couldn’t help but reflect on the key events that shaped the significant take aways from the Forum. On the closing day, a strong sense of optimism filled the misty air in Davos as the conversations shifted towards crucial global concerns and a collective human endeavor to address them. And it snowed a bit on Day3! The key take aways include tackling climate change with collaboration, driving energy transition in a just and fair way, adopting AI responsibly, handling geopolitical concerns with mutual trust, and more. Day3 kicked off with a much-needed dose of optimism in the form of a media briefing on an ambitious urban sustainability initiative to reimagine and transform urban life for people and the planet. The panel was led by John Dutton, @ZacharySmith, @FajerMushtaq, @KwasiMitchell, @ShantiRaghavan, and @AnaclaudiaRossbach. The initiative, titled Yes Cities, will support more than 1000 innovators by 2030, and scale their unique sustainability solutions across 50+ cities in the next five years. Later in the day, a special address by the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, delved into the climate crisis and the need for immediate and decisive action as a collective in order to reverse its effects and safeguard the future of the planet. I also had the opportunity to sit in a session that dove into the role of technology – Biotech, AI, and other advanced technologies – in material science and resource circularity, to counter pollution. However, the session that I found tremendously interesting on Day 3 was “All hands on deck for the Energy Transition”. With our COP28 goal of tripling renewable energy and doubling energy efficiency by 2030 fast approaching, the panel consisting of world leaders in the area shared their views on how to accelerate this and drive global collaboration to create momentum on the horizon. The event has given me a lot to think about – but topmost on my mind is a sense of gratitude for being able to be here and participate in these thought-provoking sessions, meet the world leaders and listen to the iconic figures in their respective fields in order to face the magnitude of the tasks in front of us if we are going to act in the interests of the planet and its people collectively. Until next time…goodbye Davos!
