So, I'm shutting down Adland right now. Why? Because the server host (for the webserver, not the data) just gave us 24 hours to leave. To "remove the domain adland.tv from our network within 24 hours" Why are they requesting this? Because Amy Tindell at Holland & Hart LLP in Boulder CO is demanding we remove a Thai Bridgestone ad from the archives. Remember "a Dog's life"? The ad from BBDO Bangkok that won silver in the Asia-Pacific Adfest in 2003? Yes, it's that one. They also claim that by writing the name "Bridgestone" we are infringing on Bridgestine's trademark. And that is why we are unceremoniously thrown off our web server host with a demand to get out in 24 hours. I'm not sure what BBDO thinks of this, but I would be curious to know. If we don't find a solution in 24 hours, I don't think I want to continue this any further. R.I.P Adland, the advertising archive of heaven and hell in the advertising world 1996-2019 #adland #BBDO #bridgestone #copyright #trademark
I'm confused, as it was an article (blog post) giving full credit where credit was needed (as you have always done). You weren't using their name for profit. How could anyone make a case of infringement? Would they make the same case to the New York Times?
Would a UK-based webserver help?
So. Stupid. Thanks for fighting the good fight Åsk Wäppling! We love you...
This is really unfair...That Tv ad is pretty poor but is more of a decade old! and how that level of poor taste and judgement is your fault? someone at Bridgestone DID approve it and apparently loved it so much that SUBMITTED it to an award! It will be FOREVER linked to their brand, sorry Bridgestone the internet is like that. Certainly, this kind of aggressive demand is not helping to restore the brand image much. Oh, Your server provider is overreacting badly.
Absolute bullshit lawsuit. I'm sorry that this is happening to you.
Terrible situation! Really hope this can be resolved and that Adland will live on.
Hopefully we can make this right. It doesn’t make sense to claim copyright for a glorified speaking of a Product name.
