Pondering a path forward for New York

Even while New York City remains the U.S. epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, Governor Andrew Cuomo is contemplating its "slow and difficult" path toward economic recovery, The Wall Street Journal writes. The administration is already working to establish a timeline for businesses in the city to resume operations. At the same time, a Siena College poll found that 58% of New York City residents fear they will be unable to "meet monthly financial obligations."
Other New York news:
- Another 599 people died in New York on Sunday, pushing the the total number of deaths in the state to 4,758, according to Gov. Cuomo.
- The subway workforce has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, CNN reports. At least 22 employees have lost their lives due to complications related to the virus. Some 1,092 out of a total 74,000 MTA workers have recorded positive virus tests.
- President Trump said he was deploying 1,000 military medical personnel to New York City to help in the coronavirus fight. In addition, Cuomo ordered some 2,700 National Guard forces to redistribute ventilators.
- New York City canceled spring break for public schools and prohibited the use of videoconferencing programs Zoom and Google Classroom, due to safety concerns.
