While Dropbox is following many tech companies by allowing its employees to continue to work from home, the company is taking the unusual step of becoming “virtual first.” Its approximately 3,000 employees will continue to work remotely most of the time, but will occasionally go into the office for team-building work. Dropbox is transforming its offices into "Dropbox Studios," and removing individual desks. It decided to do so to create an "equal playing field" among its workforce.

  • BlackRock’s Larry Fink is also thinking of virtual workforces: In an interview with Bloomberg, the CEO says he wants a “future in which only 50% of workers are working in offices.”
  • Some 87% of workers want to be given the option of remote or office work once COVID-19 restrictions ease, and more control over their hours, per research from Cisco Systems.
