David Ellison has spent the last couple months meeting with employees at Paramount Global and developing a plan for the beleaguered media company. He’s going to combine all of the TV networks under one division, part of a major effort to cut costs in TV. He’s going to invest a lot of $$ into streaming. And he’s almost certain to say goodbye to several top leaders and bring in his own people. A look at his strategy, filled with many scoops: https://lnkd.in/gPp9RH47

Calling all journalists! It's that time again. I am putting together my November jobs newsletter. Please send me all the job openings you know of in newsrooms nationwide. Many of you are new to my LinkedIn. This is part of the deal. If you asked to connect with me, you know I only ask of you one thing: help me find a job opening or internship I can add to my list. Put the info in the comments or DM me. This work is part of my #CallingAllJournalists Initiative. While I appreciate that you like this post, I would appreciate it if you REPOST it now. We succeed together. My last list had more than 125 jobs. Let's beat that record! Just so you know, I am NOT a recruiter. I don't get paid to do this. I offer this job list for FREE, and I list your jobs for FREE. Please let me know if anyone is putting this list on a paid service. #CallingAllJournalists #LocalNews #JobsAlert #JournalismJobs #Journalism

The policy stakes could not be higher right now so POLITICO Pro and E&E News are supercharging our efforts to help our policy professionals navigate the new Washington. I’ve had the pleasure to work on with our newsroom, subscriber business and marketing teams on a new subscriber convening strategy that has included retooling our weekly subscriber briefings to make them more timely, interactive, tailored and valuable to a broad cross-section of our professional subscribers and prospective subscribers. 🧭 Our new navigator series provides candid explanations of the machinery of government — from the mechanics of presidential transitions and congressional leadership races to the details of the budget reconciliation and appropriations processes. 🧭 Our post-election lookahead series shares our policy journalists’ forward-looking and behind-the-scenes intelligence about the new Congress and new administration. 💥 The audience response has exceeded our expectations: our average number of attendees quadrupled and we have quintupled the interest from prospective subscribers, demonstrating that interactive experiences with our deep bench of specialist journalists brings unique value to our audience of policy professionals. Huge thanks to Rex Willis and Liz (Vlk) Cramer for their great collaboration, to Rachel Loeffler and Alix Beadle-Ryby for their partnership on growing subscriber engagement, and of course to Sudeep Reddy, Clea Benson, Bob King, Darius Dixon Cyril Zaneski and all the policy and politics editors and teams across the newsroom who have shared their deep expertise and irrepressible enthusiasm with our subscribers. Here are some of the recent topics subscribers have had access to: · Navigating Budget Reconciliation · Post-Election Lookahead: Health Care Policy in the New Washington · California vs. Trump: The new era in California politics and policy · Live from Baku: On the Frontlines of COP29 · Post-Election Lookahead: Economic Policy in the New Washington · Navigating the Congressional Leadership Races · State of the Races: House and Senate Updates · California: Newsom’s Vetoes · The Path to 270 · Deal or No Deal? The Outlook on Permitting Reform · Navigating the Presidential Transition · State of the Races: House and Senate I · Navigating the Hill Spending Fight There is still time to sign-up for this week’s briefing on #Defense and National Security in the New Washington featuring Connor O'Brien, Jack Detsch, Nahal Toosi and Robbie Gramer. https://lnkd.in/efcK-u7D

New in The Drum today: With Donald #Trump set to return to the Oval Office in January, leaders at The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian US and NPR are bracing for shifts in ad strategy and brand safety challenges. I spoke with ad executives at each publisher about how they plan to navigate political sensitivities, reinforce public trust and protect advertisers amid rising polarization. One of my favorite projects of 2024 has been co-founding with Forbes' Jeff Kauflin a Business Journalism Task Force for NAHJ (National Association of Hispanic Journalists). While the team's mission is to get more #Latinos into business journalism, we also want to help those currently in the field better understand the economic factors affecting their careers. That's why the theme of our very first public workshop is "How to Negotiate Your Salary." Whether you're starting a new job or are hoping to ask for a promotion or raise, don't wait until your manager tells you what to expect: Have the confidence to negotiate a salary that benefits you and your employer. Register for the workshop at this link, and sign up there to hear about future projects from the Task Force: https://lnkd.in/eBgwUcdu #salarynegotiation #careeradvice #career #HispanicHeritageMonth

Calling all journalists. Give us your best advice for a student to have a successful internship. What should they know, do , watch and more. My tips: -Be a sponge, learn everything. -Introduce yourself to everyone and let them know you’re an intern. -definitely shadow the people who have the job you want when you gtaduate. -Leave the internship with names of people who will be your recommendations and got to know you during the internship, including your work ethic. Recommendations help in getting another internship or job Now what is your advice? #journalism #callingAllJournalists #localnews #internships

"Why not do something that's going to bring people back to advertising and have consumers engage with what we're creating again? I think it starts with diversity. It starts with welcoming new, fresh, innovative ideas - that's the key. We can't just keep regurgitating the same thing and hoping for a different result.” I spoke with KUAMP INC.'s founder, EP and CCO, Antonio “Tronic” McDonald about his career journey so far, opening pathways for the next generation, and what the pinnacle of branded entertainment can be. Read the full interview below. LBBonline - Little Black Book

Nielsen's Proposed 3-Minute Quarter Hour • The net effect of lowering the listening threshold with advertisers. • How the move works with today’s shorter listening spans. • The current lost listening that would be recaptured. • The effect on quarter hours now loaded with commercials. • And an even better idea that is not being considered that would help every station without signaling declining audiences. https://lnkd.in/eM9SxSxq

The latest Pew Research Center report paints a stark picture of our online news ecosystem, shares Taylor Lorenz - and the challenges we face as media professionals. According to Pew, the news influencer landscape skews male (63% of creators) and disproportionately conservative - especially on platforms like Facebook, where right-leaning influencers outnumber left-leaning ones 3:1. These numbers aren't just stats - they're a signal. With 4 in 10 adults under 30 regularly consuming news from influencers, this imbalance distorts public discourse, entrenches polarization, and risks undermining democratic values. But here’s the opportunity: as media professionals, we can bridge the gap. Platforms like TikTok have already shown us how powerful relatable, raw, and real content can be for reaching Gen Z audiences. It’s proof that news organizations don’t just belong on social - they need to act as creators. The path forward? Embrace new formats, invest in creative storytelling, and prioritize diverse voices to ensure equity and representation in the spaces where audiences are most active. This isn’t just about news delivery; it’s about reclaiming influence and rebuilding trust in a fractured media environment. https://lnkd.in/gPWeQjAW

As TV ad revenues are expected to decline while digital media grows, Paramount’s approach breaks down traditional barriers to TV advertising and provides a user-friendly entry point for SMBs. The platform emphasizes TV’s unique ad features and will initially focus on performance metrics before expanding to include business impact measurement. #TVAdvertising #DigitalMedia #ParamountAds

The Hearst DevHub continues to focus on building practical AI-powered tools for our local newsrooms, and we're excited about our latest initiative: Emcee, a quiz-generation engine. 🧠 Emcee (M.C. = multiple choice) is built on the back of our newsrooms' reported, edited and vetted work. No hallucinations here. We scrape our most popular stories, use gen-AI to turn the stories into a multiple-choice format, spin up one of the DevHub's interactive Quiz templates, and alert the editor, whose job is to read through the questions and answers, edit for taste and accuracy, and then publish the quiz manually. No direct publishing to the web; a human is in the loop and in control of every piece of content. We're live in our (Albany) Times Union, Hearst Connecticut Media Group and Houston Chronicle newsrooms, with more programs on the way. The newsrooms are smartly taking this quiz tech and turning it into a weekly program to engage new readers. Win-win. Check out paywall-free examples, and if you're in New York, Connecticut or Texas, test your knowledge: ❓ Albany: https://lnkd.in/efbA-ekJ ❓ Connecticut: https://lnkd.in/eFy7_jUu ❓ Houston: https://lnkd.in/eFTeRDGK

⬇ I've worked at PitchBook as a senior reporter (Dear, PR: No shameless pitches permitted!) for all of three months. They've been some of the best yet. PitchBook people, consummate pros, all—from us Newsies to The Normals—care. They care a whole lot. They 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘺 care about me (could be you :) on both a professional and a personal level. In my notably unbiased opinion—journalists have zero opinions, remember—we, a tight-knit team, punch well above our weight. We nail timely trends, backing trend stories up with the most robust private market alts data on the planet. Perhaps in the universe. We land scoops that move the needle. And, if a cliche it may be, we work smart, hard and together. We just get the ins and out, ups and down of complex, opaque markets about as well as ~industry participants~ (call out this jargon in my next scoop.) You get paid for obtaining a bootstrapped MBA, as well as one helluva' crash course in sensitive sourcing building, plus the know-how to write and edit with both deep subject matter expertise and a dash of literary flair. A bad deal this is not. Feel free to DM or email me with questions: michael.bodley@pitchbook.com P.S. PitchBook people >>> Pierpoint people. If you get the reference without Googling, congrats; you have won one (1) free pitch.

DOS Won't Hunt -- Recording Schedule through December Interested panelists, please contact me directly via email, not just with comments on this post: joao-pierre.ruth@informationweek.com Note to public relations teams: please only pitch panelists you have CONFIRMED will be available on those dates. This is a video podcast recording. Only the panelists will be in the session. Here are the topics I plan to cover on the podcast in the weeks ahead. All recordings will be on video, panel discussions, at 12 pm ET on the recording dates below. December 6 – What Enterprise IT Predictions Actually Mattered in 2024? Every year sees prognostications about what tech will take off, evolve, and transform the enterprise world. What expectations did your organization start 2024 with and how has that played out? Did anything hold water? Did surprises in tech emerge during the year eclipse the predictions? Is it better for organizations to not chase predictive trends or does that mean giving up a competitive edge? December 13 – The Cloud You Want vs the Cloud You Need: Are enterprises able to tailor their cloud resources to fit their operational needs? How does that compare with ambitions? Cost? Usage? Are more organizations cloud-first? Are we ever going to see an all, cloud-first world where EVERYTHING exists in the cloud? Does that dream no longer seem real? December 20 – Cyber Threats and the Holidays: Do retailers still face high levels of cyber risk in a world fraught with ransomware attacks year-round? Do bad actors focus their attention more on targets they strike when an opportunity arises, which might not have anything to do with the holiday shopping season? Or are there still Cyber Grinches out there who are making a concerted effort to strike as transactions fly faster than reindeer? December 27 – Infrastructure Resilience: Y2K 25 Years Later. What have we learned about maintaining our infrastructure, a generation after putting in the work to correct the Y2K bug? How has computer infrastructure been rethought? What “rules” and “norms” that were part of legacy tech no longer apply in the time of cloud, edge, and all else beyond we are exploring?
