DoD CIO Katie Arrington announced that a revamped Risk Management Framework (RMF) will be released in the coming weeks. “The goal [was] to retain strong cybersecurity standards without sacrificing speed and innovation,” said Arrington. #MYGRCPOV attending and hosting interviews at the Nat'l Association of Black Compliance & Risk Management Professionals, Inc. (NABCRMP) Annual Summit this week reminded me why community matters in compliance and risk. I had the opportunity to sit down with Lisa D. Norris, MBA, MJ, a dedicated compliance professional and NABCRMP member, to discuss her journey and insights. A few key takeaways from our conversation: • Community creates belonging. Lisa shared how NABCRMP gave her a space to connect as a woman of color in compliance, something she didn’t see early in her healthcare career. • Resources still lag behind responsibility. Many compliance teams are stretched thin without the budgets to match the multiple hats they wear—auditing, risk management, policy, and more. • Proactivity drives equity and accountability. Lisa stressed that waiting for regulations isn’t enough. Compliance leaders must anticipate industry shifts, align with organizational strategy, and set higher standards ahead of mandates. I left this conversation inspired and challenged. Compliance is more than checking boxes—it is about influence, foresight, and the courage to speak truth where it matters. PSA: there are no country-wide standards on what is included in Higher Education #Cybersecurity degrees or boot camps. If you are a hiring manager ask about the focus of the degree/program, the subjects and activities included, and any program outcomes they expect from graduates. If you are a degree holder and job seeker, prepare to answer those questions. Just like company security programs, no degree program is the same.
