The OpenAI Mafia Just Got Bigger—and It's Not Just Them Recently, Andrej Karpathy, a co-founder of OpenAI, announced he has founded Eureka Labs, an AI-focused education company. This marks the latest venture to emerge from the 'OpenAI Mafia' To date, these companies have secured over $10B in funding. Here are a few standout examples: Anthropic, founded by Dario Amodei, former Vice President of Research at OpenAI, has raised $9.7B, becoming one of the top-funded startups. Perplexity AI, co-created by Aravind Srinivas, an ex-research scientist at OpenAI, has raised $165M. Cresta, launched by Tim Shi, a former Technical Staff at Open AI, has raised $151M. Daedalus, started by Jonas Schneider, former Tech Lead at OpenAI, has raised $41M. Gantry, co-founded by Josh Tobin, ex-Research Scientist at OpenAI, has raised $28.3M. Who's next in line? Possibly Greg Brockman. He recently left OpenAI. And given the growing impact of this group, it's likely he'll start his own venture soon.
