The innovative design of Intuit Dome has been featured in ARCHITECT Magazine’s article, “6 Ways AECOM Is Upping Its Game With Their Design of the New LA Clippers Arena.” The piece highlights the arena’s sustainable architecture, merging advanced technology and fan experience to create one of the most eco-friendly sports venues worldwide. The arena’s design incorporates 100% outdoor air for ventilation, a grid shell with ETFE, PTFE, and laminated PTFE panels and seismic isolation to absorb earthquake energy. Its glowing exterior, enhanced by color-changing LEDs, adds dynamic visual appeal while the shape, inspired by a basketball net, mirrors the fluid motion of the sport. These elements work together to reduce energy consumption, improve air quality, optimize airflow, shading and temperature regulation.   Our lead designer, ross wimer, emphasized the goal of blurring the lines between indoors and outdoors to create a more open, less confined space than traditional hermetic sports arenas. Handing over this document to a third party has many potential opportunities to lower the quality and/or intent of the relationship between the architect and the client and therefore reducing the chances the client will get to experience the design and features they've learned to expect throughout the design process. Having an architect lead the design build process insures the design intent is carried out in full control from start to finish. The new Ohana Behavioral Health Campus, designed by NBBJ Design, exemplifies how architecture plays a crucial role in healing. This isn't the first time NBBJ has successfully designed spaces for mental health treatment. Thank you AECbytes for our firm profile. If you had a wish list for AEC technology, what would it be? "It would have to be AI integration in production software to identify and resolve optimization issues with design, materials and systems, a “spell check” of sorts going through the documents and model and calling out efficiency errors. Automated comprehensive verification of data in the contract documents would be an enormous help. Having worked on embodied carbon reduction policies, I understand the loopholes in current software tools to get accurate and complete data. Carbon accounting for all the components of a building is still very complex and, at the moment, simply incomplete if not inaccurate. The challenge is real time dynamic lifecycle analysis with regional data, integrated into BIM applications, and on the output side, verification of the data produced — a pretty ambitious wish" - Hafsa Burt

Safdie Architects has announced the expansion of its leadership team with the appointment of Jeffrey Huggins to Senior Partner. With over two decades at the Boston-based firm, Huggins has contributed significantly to many of the firm’s most programmatically complex projects, including the technical innovation of skybridges connecting high-rise towers. Notable projects include the Surbana Jurong Campus, Raffles City Chonqing, and Marina Bay Sands and its forthcoming expansion.  Huggins joins fellow Senior Partners Charu Kokate, Christopher Mulvey, Jaron Lubin, and Sean Scensor. Together, they work closely alongside Founding Partner Moshe Safdie to carry forward the firm’s humanist, values-based practice.

The Mission Point project proposed by developer Kylli was unanimously approved by Santa Clara’s City Council on November 19, 2024. The Gensler-designed project, that will transform the neighborhood near Levi Stadium, has been in the works for years. The 48.6-acre property was originally slated to become a Yahoo Campus before the plan was dropped and property sold to a Chinese tech company in 2016 and subsequently to Kylii in 2017. Two options for the project were proposed: Option A includes up to 1,800 residential units, 3 million SF of office / R&D uses, 100,000 SF of retail / amenity uses, 10,000 SF of childcare space, associated parking, parks, and open space. Option B includes up to 2,600 residential units, 2.2 million SF of office / R&D uses, 100,000 SF of retail / amenity uses, 10,000 SF of childcare space, associated parking, parks, and open space. The City approved Option B along with the up to 800 additional housing units it provides. KMA’s David Doezema assisted with development agreement negotiations and a fiscal impact analysis peer review.
