Hopefully this is the first time you're seeing modular control rig working inside #uefn. I saw the hidden menu for making modular control rigs during #unrealfest and tried migrating all the modules over. Not without its kinks, we now have working modular control rigs and modules on the otherside. If people are interested in this process, I'll consider making a longer form tutorial. In the meantime, what should we rig up with the modules in UEFN?

✨When There Are So Many Layoffs in Gamedev, Should I be Bothered? Maybe It is Time to Consider a Change of Industry?✨ This question needs to be looked at from various angles, reflecting on your professional experience and considering your current concerns. ✨ How worried are you about all the news of layoffs?✨ Does this background worry hinder your ability to function and work normally? If so, you need an action plan. First and foremost, ✨assess the uniqueness and success of your experience✨. Have you been able to bring something new to the company, achieve outstanding results? If the answer is more yes, then you can feel more confident, as with such expertise and experience, even in the event of layoffs, it will be easier for you to find a new job in the industry. ✨Look at the job market to see how in-demand your field and profession are✨. If layoffs were to happen tomorrow, how many gaming companies could you apply to? Make an approximate list of these companies. It's also important to ✨assess your emotional and psychological state✨. If the thought of layoffs, industry crises, or the rise of AI is depriving you of normal sleep, perhaps it's worth seeking help from a therapist. It wouldn't hurt to ✨create a "backup plan”✨, considering how you can apply your experience from the gaming industry to other fields and, most importantly, whether there are suitable vacancies in other industries. Evaluating other industries, check if there's a crisis in them. How promising would your new activity be in a new industry for you? And overall, does the thought of a new industry interest you? It's important that you enjoy your work. If you realize that it makes sense to move into a new field, ✨evaluate your decision from a financial point of view✨: will the new job cover your minimum financial needs at the start, or do you need a safety net/partner's income/temporary freelance or consulting projects? How much time will you need to retrain? If you've considered all the risks and are ready for them, then we wish you good luck! The truth is, ✨money will continue to flow into the games industry ✨ because people have played and will continue to play. The question is just to weather this storm, see the emergence of new trends, and continue to create new hits. If your involvement in the industry and game production outweighs all these concerns, you probably won't leave. But make sure you have plans B and C, just in case!

Hey folks ! I've been putting in place a small proof of concept / example on how you can use the Python remote execution in Unreal, to link a DCC ( in that case, Houdini ) and Unreal. 🎞 Here is the video: https://lnkd.in/eKir8JyC In this example, I apply a very simple hda on a selected asset(s) in the content browser directly (no Houdini engine involved here). It runs a hython session under the hood to process the hda, spawn an UI blueprint widget to show the progress of the process and automatically closes it when done. See a quick summary of the pipeline in the attached picture 😊. I'm thinking about maybe doing a in depth tutorial on how to do it with a more complex example, how to set up the pipeline as well as customizing the command and its parameters. We are underway with our next assignment, which is local split-screen multiplayer. I had thought there would be far more complex systems for creating a split-screen game, however, it turns out it is fairly easy when using the new input system with its built-in input manager. There was no need to set up any special coding for managing the two cameras separately, or a need to set up different render planes to render each camera to an individual render texture, just select the allow split-screen option and set up keys in the control map as joining actions. And enable the option to join the game via said actions. And then we have a split-screen multiplayer, well a very basic one, now we need to focus on the rest of the systems and mechanics that need to be added to the system. #srudentgamedev #indiegamedev #madewithunity

In today's little bit of progress, we're working with a little bit of music and setting up some Enemy Animation Blueprints- just with patrolling and idling for the time being. These are called Agonized Hunters and probably for good reason. Lore is so fun to come up with, by the way. I suppose all the stories I started to write even as a kid should've been a grand sign towards my liking of storytelling, but I definitely know about it now. I thought it would be a nice touch for the light to turn red/add in some invincibility frames when the player comes in contact with them, as well as adding in a sliiiight distinction between the breakable platforms and the ones you can walk on regularly. On a semi-related note, something I only learned fairly recently: the Nav Mesh Bounds Volume in Unreal only registers traversable ground. That's why it's only the ground that turns green when you preview it and not the air that the volume may also be in contact with. If you're working with flying enemies you won't want to rely on those or the functions related to them (like GetRandomReachablePointInRadius and co.), since they will bring those flying guys right to the ground at best. You'll want to look into the Math function RandomPointInBoundingBox instead. ✨

If you're wondering what the next Kartaverse 6 dev effort is: I am currently assessing the feasibility of diving in and helping to finish the porting process for the open-source Monado OpenXR runtime so it runs on macOS Sonoma. https://monado.dev The goal would be to make it possible for Monado to be installed using the homebrew (brew) package manager in a low fuss fashion. Then XR artists and devs could use the OpenXR API on macOS with the Vulkan (moltenVK) based graphics. The way I see this being useful to a broader audience is that I am contemplating using Monado's remote and simulator interface code as a cross-platform compatible way to support a live-link bridge from a desktop XR graphics session to Apple Vision Pro HMDs. This would be with the goal of supporting bidirectional data passing for both the wireless connected graphics framebuffer, and the 6DoF tracking of hands and head pose data. Conceptually this is similar to what NVIDIA is doing with their NVIDIA CloudXR API. Having a path to connect an OpenXR session to an AVP could strengthen the immersive ecosystem by providing a path for XR playback that is vendor neutral and cross-platform. *** The groundwork that makes an AVP connection via OpenXR workflow technically feasible is that over the last 2 years I had the opportunity to collaborate with Schneider Digital on an effort to support passive stereo 3D displays via OpenXR. It's an ongoing R&D project that is close to hitting its next milestone. It's been a super useful learning process for me, and I've had a chance to work with an amazing group of like minded stereo 3D ecosystem members. I'm very excited to see R&D projects happening such as improved stereo 3D aware mouse cursors, and Vulkan multi-buffer swapchain demos, by this core team. You can open the uproject (Unreal 5.4) and you'll see a short description of the project and where to find the needed data ( blueprint etc. ). The hip file has also few comments to explains how it works. I might update the project with other example in the futur, don't hesitate to star the github depot 😀.
