DYK: The United States has leveraged the Reagan Test Site’s suite of instrumentation radars and its unique location on the Kwajalein Atoll to enhance space surveillance and to conduct space launches. Lincoln Laboratory’s technical leadership at the site and its connection to the greater Department of Defense space community have been instrumental in the success of programs to detect space launches, to catalog deep-space objects, and to provide exquisite radar imagery of satellites. One of these radars, ALCOR, was the first high-power, wide-band radar system. ALCOR’s wideband capability was adapted to satellite imaging, leading to Lincoln Laboratory’s pioneering work in developing techniques and algorithms for generating and interpreting radar images. https://ow.ly/itlw50WyIR4

The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering is taking over the “authority, direction, and control” of the Pentagon’s Chief Digital and AI Office, according to new guidance issued Thursday by Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Feinberg that presents an accelerated plan to disrupt and transform how the emerging technology is adopted across the Defense Department and military. “By aligning the CDAO under the USD(R&E), we create a powerful innovation engine that can deliver Al superiority from laboratory to battlefield,” Feinberg wrote in a memorandum to Pentagon leadership, combatant commanders, and defense agency and DOD field activity directors. https://lnkd.in/e98SB445
