Well of course manufacturing companies are gaining in value as AI powers the next industrial revolution. Technological advances are always worth more when they enhance existing equipment and infrastructure because the costs of and hurdles to widespread adaptation are lower, while the speed to market penetration and scale is much higher. AI is rapidly emerging in so many forms and applications that virtually every company is finding ways to leverage it to improve performance. Companies with existing assets - such as manufacturing and other industrial concerns - simply have more to leverage, and thus more runway for improved financial performance. The upshot? "The unfolding spending boom means high valuations for industrial firms are less of a risk than usual." My #Siggraph2024 reflections - Part 1 Keynote - Fireside chat - Jensen Huang & Mark Zuckerberg When two founder CEOs of this caliber decided to sit together in one of the most important computer graphics conferences, it shows the weight of the current moment for both of their companies. This is clearly where an "#iphone" moment is happening in the world of technology. The word of the hour, day and year is undoubtably #artificialintelligence. AI has been around for a while but the unleashing of the generativeAI models in the recent past has transformed this landscape. The two of them traded a lot of praise and respect including some bizarre anecdotes on Hawaiian cows and cutting tomatoes culminating in an unusual swap of clothing. But they were equally proud of what they had achieved in a short span of few decades for both their companies. Both their companies are now part of a trillion dollar market capitalization elite club. Simply staggering. Their stories are a stunning testament to how innovation can create companies of tremendous value in such a short time. It is important to note that all the 6 companies in that list are technology companies founded in the United States only in the last few decades. Hopefully Europe will wake up from its slumber. During this long chat, both of them spewed confidence and 'vision' on the techno-utopian AI driven future they are trying to build. Obviously they have to, as a lot is hinging on the success of this. However, the intrinsic motivation of their visions were slightly different in my view. Mr. Huang wants to build the foundations of physical AI, by infusing all these generative AI models into robotics, as evidenced by the humanoid robot that was training on how to work in the kitchen. I am quite certain that Mr. Musk is very close with his new pet projects - x.ai (already raised 6 Billion$) and the Tesla Humanoid - Optimus. This bold and utopian vision of a 100 Trillion$ future envisions a world filled with AI factories. Imagine every factory being constructed as a #digitaltwin that allows for incessant optimization, flexibility and utilization. This digital twin is then interlinked with its robotic factory that works in synchronization. It reminds me of an excellent podcast episode from Nicolai Tangen interviewing the CEO of Siemens (Dr. Roland Busch) who had a very similar bold vision. One can also imagine taking this concept off the planet and later scaling up in the moon or Mars. Hollywood has given us a lot of ideas on this already! Mr. Zuckerberg on the other hand has his visions around #opensource AI. He strongly believes in the potential of an open platform and the release of #llama 3.1 this week is a proof of #meta's commitment. He envisions a future where we all build our own AI workflows based on the open source models. This is obviously in stark contrast to OpenAI and their proprietary ecosystem. Only time will tell. It was a pleasure to see these visionaries live!

Hot on the heels of Meta Connect, the AI team at Meta announced major updates to its video and audio models, though it’s still unclear when these tools will be available to the public. I’ve had the chance to work with platforms like Pika and Runway, and while they’re impressive, they’re not quite where they need to be just yet. A few months back, Runway not only released its Gen3 model but also secured a deal with a Hollywood studio (https://lnkd.in/ewAaQnCi) to train its AI on high-quality cinematic data. These improvements are exciting, but we’re still waiting for broader access. Interesting article from the VC firm NFX on Guided #AI Agents, which are agents "capable of executing full workflows at low cost, like creating marketing campaigns, doing sales outreach, or executing HR tasks." The article argues that these agents will "create a new infrastructural backbone for SMBs" and "turbocharge" them. As a #smallbusiness owner who also researches AI, I agree. But the timing is still uncertain.

In his recent article on AI application pricing Kyle Poyar with Palle Broe call out the lack of innovation in the pricing of first generation AI applications. These are mostly relying on per user pricing and have conventional GBB packaging patterns.
