Interesting June Jobs report with the Federal Government adding 70,000 jobs in June, as most Americans are concerned about inflation and the soaring budget deficit. These 21,000 jobs are higher than the average monthly gain of 49,000 or the 245,000 jobs the U.S. government has created since the beginning of 2024. Adding in the 70,000 jobs added in June, the U.S. government has now created 315,000 jobs this year! It must be noted that adding government jobs does not increase our GDP nor does it help support our country in being more globally competitive. However, some good news for the FOMC along with business’ and consumers who are hoping for interest rate reduction relief: The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for April was revised down by 57,000, from +165,000 to +108,000, and the change for May was revised down by 54,000, from +272,000 to +218,000. With these revisions, employment in April and May combined is 111,000 lower than previously reported.
