A few things to digest here: 1. Thank you Robert Metzger for volunteering all of your time to help make things happen. 2. A tax rebate or reduction is only available AFTER the fact, so that's not going to help much at all. Small businesses live or die on cash flow. 3. Any kind of loan - with interest - doesn't help the business, it just puts it further in debt. 4. Even if a business goes through with all of this, there is NO GUARANTEE they will ever win or renew a DiB contract. Ideas: Why not just have the government front the cost, and then deduct it from the payment? This would incentivize the government and prime contractors to use many different sub-contractors. Why not just use DIBCAC assessors to do the third party attestations? There is no training necessary.

We will continue to refine with our Ecosystem as we drive to accelerate these technologies and set the conditions across the Department for a persistent and endemic focus on these Critical Technologies in our primary Mission Focus Areas. 2024 was great, but now the real work begins. Some pretty exciting news from those crazy Space Cadets over at Booz Allen Hamilton. Booz Allen engineers deployed a Large Language Model (LLM) to the Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) Spaceborne Computer-2 onboard the International Space Station National Lab! This experiment, believed to be the first of its kind, was the result of our engineering team saying "why don't we just push it to space?" and there was like no that wouldn't really work and then wait a minute... Why don't we just do it? The reasons for this are many-fold, but one of the things we learned through this experiment is that the environment is different. Stuff that works on the ground with big, well-connected cloud compute isn't the same in space. You can't really brute force anything. The design requires finesse. This week in Defense Tech: 1️⃣ United States Department of Defense top artificial intelligence official laid out the DoD's vision yesterday for scaling digital data #analytics and #ai across the department to ensure decision advantage for the warfighter. 2️⃣ Defense now outweighs offense, thanks to new tech, per Army Futures Command head Gen. Rainey. The realization may have wide-reaching implications for how the US Army trains and equips its forces. 3️⃣ Pentagon issues new guidance to address industry gripes about ATO process. "We're trying to strike a balance in maintaining our [risk management framework-driven] cybersecurity, but to make sure that we are able to move more quickly and not have to basically check everyone's homework,” CIO John Sherman told DefenseScoop. 4️⃣ Pentagon CIO previews ‘Fulcrum,’ the next digital modernization strategy. “The June time frame is when you'll be seeing some release on that," John Sherman told DefenseScoop. 5️⃣ As DoD concern grows about the increasing ability of adversaries to disrupt GPS satellite signals, experts warn that there is no one-size-fits-all alternative to meet military needs for positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) capabilities. 6️⃣ The US Navy Neptune Cloud Portal is accelerating cloud adoption to lighting speed. The newly updated portal features a streamlined interface to request cloud services, dashboards for IaaS/PaaS/SaaS, and access to broader DoD cloud offerings such as Cloud One, JWCC. 7️⃣ US Army set to issue new policy guidance on use of #LLM. Pentagon officials see generative AI as a tool that could be used across the department, but security concerns need to be addressed. 8️⃣ House panel calls for a DOD quantum computing Center of Excellence. A subcommittee is pushing for the creation of a new military-focused quantum hub. 9️⃣ Despite demand, Defense Information Systems Agency financially constrained to scale cloud capabilities overseas. Part of the strain comes from the large amount of infrastructure and capability that DISA must allocate money towards maintaining. 🔟 US Army moving closer to having global access to secret network. The Army launched the first phase of Global Commercial Solutions for Classified. As the US Army continues to drive toward a truly #Data Centric environment in future Multi Domain Operations (MDO) and watch current conflicts in Ukraine and Middle East, I continue to reflect on this quote from a journal paper ( https://lnkd.in/dDYDiX59 ) titled "The Graveyard of Command Posts: What Chornobaivka Should Teach Us about Command and Control in Large-Scale Combat Operations" co-authored by LTG Milford Beagle, Jr ("Beags"), Commanding General of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center - "we must reduce reliance on the physical dimension (the materiel), increase our utilization of the information dimension (the data), and maximize our relationship with the human dimension (our leaders)". These words can resonated within the resent analysis from Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET) and Emelia Probasco titled "Building the Tech Coalition: How Project Maven and the U.S. 18th Airborne Corps Operationalized Software and Artificial Intelligence for the Department of Defense". As you read this report, one can see the three dimensions from the "information dimension (the data)" with "system organizes and integrates data, allows users to select and leverage algorithms to process that data, and gives operators the ability to more quickly make decisions under accepted army doctrine and decision workflow" to the "human dimension (our leaders)" with "trilingual leaders—those who can communicate across operational, technical, and acquisition communities—were catalysts for success in paving a new path". These elements or factors help drive decision dominance on a modern battlefield. As we explore new ways and concepts to push the limits within MDO, this is a great report to read the "story of how the 18th Airborne Corps used the Scarlet Dragon Exercise series to develop the Maven Smart System (MSS), an instance where frontline army users and a coalition of technology companies—enabled by DOD (United States Department of Defense) leadership and policies—pursued and developed a new #technology that is having a meaningful impact on operations."   #artificialintelligence
