This category is rolling very rapidly. I believe that new technologies will emerge that will represent an inflection point in surgical robotics and a revolution in end effector technologies.

MedTech Innovation at TCT 2025 🚀 Honored to join the opening session of the MedTech Innovation Forum at TCT 2025, alongside visionary leaders Andrew Cleeland Jan Garfinkle Josh Makower Todd Brinton, MD Amr Salahieh. The session — “So, You Want to Be an Innovator: Master the Process, Channel the Genius” — offered timely reflections on how MedTech innovation must evolve to stay relevant and sustainable. 💡 Key takeaways: 1️⃣ MedTech funding is shifting. The cost of innovation is rising — driven by inflation, higher expectations, and reimbursement delays — making exits slower and returns smaller. Venture capital has shifted toward later-stage, de-risked ideas, creating new challenges for early innovators. 2️⃣ Innovation is a disciplined process, not a stroke of genius. The idea is only a small piece of the puzzle; history is written by those who show up. Unmet clinical needs are abundant, but the most promising ones are often latent—unseen yet impactful. Uncovering them is what leads to truly disruptive innovation. 3️⃣ Innovation thrives on meaning. For physicians, purpose (vs financial gain) is the most powerful motivator. However, deeper understanding and skillful navigation of the complex innovation ecosystem are needed to turn that purpose into lasting impact. And high resolution tactile sensing has remained the most elusive piece of this puzzle, up until now. With this new integration, our hands can now detect precise forces, the direction of these forces, slippage, and based on those measurements, adjust and adapt their grips and finger positions in real time. This allows our hands, and the robots they are attached to, to interact with and understand the complex, ever changing environments of this world and society. The best part? This will be folded back into our prosthetic models to eventually allow those living with limb loss to regain a more accurate sense of touch. TransMedics, Inc. (Andover, Massachusetts) saw its revenue grow 48% year over year in Q1, and it's upping its revenue guidance on the strength of its organ transport tech. First foundation-model based radiology device FDA cleared! It is an updated version of Aidoc’s Rib Fractures triage solution (link in the comments). “Every major organization will soon have to decide: build a foundation model or leverage one." - Michael Braginsky, CTO, Aidoc Although this clearance uses a foundation model, the indications for the device are still very narrow. FDA has resisted broader indications, but I think the BDD clearance for Modella's PathChat model (that appears to have a broad indications) may point to FDA being open to this sort of innovation in the future. How will the FDA layoffs will affect adoption of foundation models for more general indications? I could see them being more conservative with their limited capacity, or being overwhelmed and more permissive.
