🔧 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗔 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽-𝗯𝘆-𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 Hello LinkedIn! 👋 Today, I want to share some insights on a crucial aspect of software testing: 𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 automation issues. Automation can greatly enhance testing efficiency, but when scripts fail, it can be frustrating. Let me share a story about how I tackled a tricky issue and the steps I used to resolve it. 💡 Recently, I have encountered a challenging issue where a test script was failing about 1 out of every 5 or 6 runs. The failure occurred after selecting an option from a dropdown menu, but the dependent fields were not expanding as expected. The logs didn’t reveal which option was selected, making troubleshooting time-consuming and frustrating. To address this, I added logging to capture the selected dropdown options. This revealed that the script sometimes picked the same option as in the previous run, preventing the dependent fields from appearing and causing the test to fail. Once I identified this, I adjusted the script to ensure it selected a different option each time. This change made the test consistently pass and underscored the importance of detailed logging in speeding up troubleshooting. 🔗 While this was a specific case, the general approach I took can be applied to troubleshooting many automation issues. By systematically 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙗𝙡𝙚𝙢, 𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨, you can efficiently resolve failures and 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨. Here’s a framework that can guide you: 🔍 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺: Understand the issue—script failure, environment, or data. Check logs and outputs. 🔄 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲: Run the test to confirm consistency and pinpoint the issue. 🧩 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘇𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲: Review code, dependencies, and configurations for recent changes. 🔧 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲: Break the test into parts to isolate the failure. 🐞 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝘅: Use tools or logging to find and fix the problem. 📚 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻: Document the fix to prevent recurrence.
