Figured I'd start this week with some interesting market intel on AmLaw 100 profitability: 🔹 Total Gross Revenue of AmLaw 100 firms is $139,720,251,209 (increased by about 9 billion since 2023) 🔹 Highest Grossing Firm-Kirkland & Ellis 🔹 Firms with the highest increase in PEP were Susman Godfrey, Quinn Emmanuel, Norton Rose, Cravath, & Akin 🔹 Total Number of Lawyers at AmLaw 100-115,043 (1.8% increase since 2022) 🔹 Firm with the highest profit margin is Susman Godfrey, funnily enough this firm also has the fewest lawyers. The average lawyers bills about 2018 hours here. 🔹 Firm with the highest compensation for all partners is Wachtell (approx. $8M)+ and lowest is Gordon Rees (approx. $415K). 🔹 Firms with the highest clocked billable hours are DLA (6.3M ), White & Case (4.5M), Greenberg Traurig (4.3M), Hogan Lovells (3.9M), & Holland & Knight (3.2M). 🔹 The lawyer with the most billable hours was at Cozen O'Connor and billed a whopping 3,792 hours! On the latest episode of Law, disrupted, John B. Quinn is joined by Partner William Price (Bill), based in the Los Angeles office, and Partner steig d. olson, based in the New York office.   Together they discuss the landmark $110 million jury verdict, trebled to $330 million under antitrust law, that Bill and Steig recently won in the U.S. District Court for the District of Northern California, favoring Pacific Steel Group. The award will be increased to compensate for the costs and attorney's fees incurred by the plaintiff. The dispute arose when Commercial Metals, a Texas-based competitor of Pacific Steel, purchased and shut down California’s only rebar mill, creating a regional monopoly in the rebar market—a critical component in construction. Pacific Steel planned to disrupt this monopoly by building a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly steel mill using advanced Italian technology. However, Commercial Metals allegedly pressured the Italian supplier to block plaintiff Pacific Steel from accessing the necessary technology by creating a 500-mile radius “exclusivity” zone for the Italian technology around the steel mill they bought and shut down. Victory at trial hinged on simplifying a complex antitrust narrative into a clear, compelling story. In this episode, we’ll learn how Bill and Steig narrowed their case by focusing on the core issues, which cut extraneous expert testimony to streamline the presentation, used an adverse witness to expose the company's internal communications, and how cross-examinations proved pivotal in exposing contradictions and discrediting the defendants’ narrative. They also discuss the skillful collaboration between Steig, a rising young trial attorney, and Bill, a seasoned litigator renowned for his many trial victories. This case underscores the importance of strategic focus, persuasive storytelling, and adaptability in high-stakes litigation.   Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eGSvxuXi Apple: https://lnkd.in/eXxN_iyZ   #lawdisrupted #quinnemanuel

RPJ Partner Alice Jump Featured in Morningstar Article “Can a Felon Get a Commercial Real-Estate Loan?” Following former President Donald Trump’s 34 criminal convictions in New York, questions surrounding the future of Trump’s real-estate business in relation to his newfound felony status have arisen. Financing is crucial to Trump’s commercial real-estate business, and yet his ability to secure any future loans may be at risk due to his recent felony conviction. Jump, however, contends that as a general matter, banks and lenders would still be able to provide loans to Trump should they wish to do so. According to Jump, while “[i]t's certainly not going to help… [t]here is no blanket prohibition” on a convicted felon applying for or receiving a new property loan. Jump furthermore notes that in the employment context at least “New York has considered a criminal history to be a protected category,” and as a result Trump may stand to benefit from the very state criminal justice reform he has opposed politically.
