  • Test Engineer/Programmer Analyst Senior

    Lockheed Martin
    (2 years 8 months)

Software systems engineering and test for the Liquid Hydrogen LH2, Liquid Oxygen LO2, and Launch Accessory Checkout Control and Monitor Subsystem Applications Programs for West Coast Space Shuttle automated launch operations in support of the United States Air Force and NASA launch site (Space Launch Complex-6). Analyzed requirements, engineering specifications, drawings, and operations criteria to design operational software used in External Tank lightweigh tank cryogenic load and drain operations. Developed formal test plans and procedures designed to demonstrate software capabilities and detect anomalies. Conducted Formal Qualification Tests, isolated software anomalies and directed the correction of affected modules. Evaluated hardware and software change requests and developed impact assessments. Significant accomplishments were development of an innovative test approach to LH2 fill and drain Reactive Control Logic software and hardware that lead to discovery of integrated hardware and software timing defects that could have caused catastrophic failure of the Launch Processing System and External Tank. High Fidelity simulations of the internal External Tank and loading system environment allowed testing to predict the probability that under certain conditions of ET propellant quanities, vent valve operations, and safing of the ground loading valves a over spec pressure spike might be experienced at the storage tank. Initially thought to affect only the Vandenberg automated system, I was informed later found to affect Kennedy Space Center LPS safing software and nominal loading process as well. West Coast Shuttle was terminated eventually due to the Challenger accident, but efforts there led to changes at Kennedy Space Center as well.
