Having developed similar smart contracts from scratch, because there weren't any appropriate standards available at the time, I welcome this new EIP as potentially filling a gap in the ecosystem. ERC-7943 is positioning itself as a new competitor in the RWA tokenization market by prioritizing modularity and developer experience over the rigid compliance requirements of existing standards. While existing players like ERC-3643 force mandatory identity verification through ONCHAINID and ERC-1400 operates as a complex suite of interconnected standards, ERC-7943 takes a more flexible approach by making compliance features optional rather than mandatory at the protocol level. Currently in Stage 2 of the approval process, ERC-7943 is gaining attention for its potential to simplify compliance workflows and improve interoperability across different tokenization use cases. Unlike CMTAT which has struggled with adoption despite similar modular principles, ERC-7943's emphasis on compatibility with existing token standards (ERC-20, ERC-721, ERC-1155) and its developer-friendly architecture could help it capture market share by reducing integration complexity for teams building diverse RWA tokenization products. South Korea is going full TradFi with its crypto regulation, and fast Phase 2 of the countrys digital asset framework is landing by end of 2025, and it changes the game: - Token listings will no longer be at the mercy of exchanges like Upbit or Bithumb. The process moves under government oversight, closer to capital markets rules. - Stablecoin issuers must be licensed, fully backed (cash/deposits/T-bills), and offer guaranteed redemption. Think Tether/Circle, but with full regulatory teeth. - The term “virtual asset” is being retired. New categories introduced: brokers, custodians, exchanges; each with tailored obligations. - Strict bans on manipulation, front-running, and any grey-zone listing activity. The ambition is clear: institutionalgrade transparency, capital markets logic, and maximum control. But in trying to force crypto into a TradFi shaped box, Korea risks overcorrecting. What looks like "investor protection" on paper could end up gutting one of the worlds most vibrant retail crypto markets.
