“After serving as a board trustee since 2017, Cris was selected to be the chair of our board of trustees at Boston Day and Evening Academy (BDEA) in September 2020 during arguably the most uncertain time in recent history for the field of public school education. As an alternative education high school, BDEA faced even more obstacles. Teachers and staff were all trying to adapt to a remote learning environment while also navigating the additional racial reckoning for our country and supporting students and families through housing instability and homelessness, food insecurity, personal losses from COVID and increased mental health concerns. Throughout this, Cris supported our board, and as a result our staff, to remain focused on our key priorities: learning, attainable outcomes, health, safety and trauma management. A year and a half later, she continues to lead with constant curiosity, a sense of humor that quickly connects people, warmth, and a "let's do this" attitude that is only superseded by her willingness to lead by example. We are truly fortunate to benefit daily from her influential, collaborative and trusting leadership. Her leadership combination is a particular gift to me as the Head of School.”
