📢 LinPrim: Linear Primitives for Differentiable Volumetric Rendering 📢 We use octahedra or tetrahedra as explicit as volumetric building blocks for gradient-based novel view synthesis - as an alternative to 3D Gaussians with discrete, bounded geometry. We show how it can be used to reconstruct photorealistic scenes, and introduce a corresponding differentiable CUDA rasterizer that enables real-time rendering. On real-world scenes, LinPrim achieves comparable image quality with fewer primitives, adding a practical polyhedral option to the 3D scene representation toolbox and expanding the known design space. 🌍 https://lnkd.in/e98sGuPm 🎥 https://lnkd.in/eT8uy7cY Amazing work by Nicolas von Lützow!

What do you think we'll see in 2025 in the space of generative AI? Personally, I'm hoping for a lot more creative control over the output of these systems.. here's a small example of what that could look like. Here, I've made a 3d model and animation and use video to video as a "render layer". #art #ai

Using NVIDIA’s Cosmos-Transfer1-DiffusionRenderer to relight live-action footage with HDRI. It produces an impressive ALBEDO, with shadows accurately cast from the HDRI light source. I customized it to process HDRI sequences, allowing calculation with arbitrary motion and position. However, the resolution is limited to 1280x720 and only up to 57 frames can be processed at once. I used an official overlapping code release to fake longer sequences. The image quality still degrades, so it’s not suitable for direct use—but I tried blending it slightly into the opening of the first cut this time.

Radiance field like NeRF and 3DGS are amazing to capture a specific moment in time with a given geometry, lighting and context (static but now also dynamic). What if the lighting context could be changed post training? Carnegie Mellon University presents "💡LightSwitch💡: Multi-view Relighting with Material-guided Diffusion" They propose Lightswitch, a novel finetuned material-relighting diffusion framework that efficiently relights an arbitrary number of input images to a target lighting condition while incorporating cues from inferred intrinsic properties. By using multi-view and material information cues together with a scalable denoising scheme, our method consistently and efficiently relights dense multi-view data of objects with diverse material compositions. They show that our 2D relighting prediction quality exceeds previous state-of-the-art relighting priors that directly relight from images. They further demonstrate that LightSwitch matches or outperforms state-of-the-art diffusion inverse rendering methods in relighting synthetic and real objects in as little as 2 minutes.
