📉The U.S. wine and spirits market is facing challenges as sales fell by 6.0% in the 12 months leading up to August 2024, according to Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America’s SipSource data. The decline is notable in both on- and off-premise channels, with premium products hit hardest. Mid-range tiers also experienced pressure. Diageo doubles down on non-alcoholic spirits with the acquisition of Ritual Zero Proof & now owns three of the five world's largest non-alcoholic spirit brands Ritual Zero Proof was founded in 2019, and became the #1 non-alcoholic spirits player in the US after joining Diageo’s accelerator program in 2020. Americans' perception of retail private label products stays positive, as indicated by the "2024 Power of Private Brands" report from FMI- The Food Industry Association. Survey respondents highlighted keywords like "good," "great," "quality," "better," "brand," and "value" to describe their view on private label products currently available in the market. According to the report, 55% of the people interviewed in the United States have increased their purchases of private label products in the past year, surpassing the 28% who opted for more national brand products. The non-alcoholic spirits category is building amazing momentum in the US. In fact, over Easter the non-alc spirits became the fastest growing category within alcohol. Sales were up a huge 101% YoY and growth was 3x faster than any other category!
