“Catherine Patchell is a software engineer by trade and a designer by passion. Her front-end development works are functional and aesthetic masterpieces. I had the pleasure of working with Catherine on a 10% time project during our co-op at Intuit. During this time, Catherine was in charge of creating our front-end widget that was to be AB tested on the TurboTax homepage. She did this in a very small amount of time, with elegance and patience. Within just a couple of weeks, the widget has had a 4% increase in customer account creation. I highly recommend Catherine.”

During Codechella (Intuit's hackathon), two teams were given the problem of Social Proof. Each team solved the problem in a different way, and each solution uniquely contributed to TurboTax. In the months following our two teams combined to solve a marketing problem using what we learned about Social Proof.

Problem: Users are coming to TurboTax.com, but a very low percentage of them are not creating accounts.
Hypothesis: When users hear of or see other people using a product to solve needs similar to them, they are more willing to use the same product.
Solution: Use "like-me" social data to entice and convince users that TurboTax is the product for them. This in turn will encourage account creation and eventual e-filing through TurboTax.
What we did: Designed and created two front-end widgets (AB tested) using HTML5, Javascript, and CSS using Design for Delight methodologies. Social posts were pulled from Twitter, HouseParty, and our reviews using a back-end Java service with JAX-RS and AWS Database.Other creators
