While the world is focused on AI productivity gains for developers, platform engineering, through consistent implementation of common patterns across a development organization - alongside wholesale agile adoption inclusive of product management have yielded the lions share of productivity gains in recent years. The AI productivity gains in development that I have observed are in line with a greatly enhanced IDE with a much better search engine - not minimizing those, or the idea that AI coding will continue to improve - but AI will not by itself solve the adoption of consistent architectural patterns across your enterprise. Platform engineering creates a consequent reduction in complexity and unlocks enormous team productivity while reducing go forward tech debt..so my bet on AI gains for development are about finding ways to use AI to accelerate platform engineering itself.. what do you think?
