Well, this is new. Usually I go directly as barren html without visual to ensure the structure, understanding, basically information architecture. So, it is clear that any designer who WANT and ABLE to make their design accessible need to understand (at least) basic HTML5. #a11y #a11yID

I think AI can help authors develop alt text similar to how auto-generated captions provide a base that a human can edit. I worry that the hype around web browsers using AI to describe images might lead to authors not adding alt text. AI can't determine the author's intention for each image and will miss key details. I do like Firefox's strategy of showing the AI-generated alt text each time an image is added to a PDF and asking the user to validate it. #accessibility https://lnkd.in/gyy8YVmx

I appreciate the work TeachAccess is doing to infuse digital accessibility into college curriculum courses. Their goal is to educate college students about digital accessibility because they can use these skills when they join the workforce, which will lead to companies producing more accessible products. Sometimes we forget to celebrate the wins. The original update to the ADA that introduced WCAG standards had an exception for password-protected instructional materials. People and organizations from all over wrote to encourage the government to remove this exception. The government listened and the final rule will require public higher education institutions to make their instructional materials accessible. Hopefully, this will apply to all higher education institutions in the future. #Accessibility https://lnkd.in/dxBm_icm

This article highlights the importance of effective communication when sharing accessibility testing feedback. I have documented many accessibility bugs and capturing screenshots of the error can be very helpful. Also, describing the steps needed to recreate the bug is important. This literature review explores the implementation and impact of universal design at higher education institutions. One of the key findings was that students with disabilities are more likely to succeed in classes that are implementing universal design strategies. This is an interesting dissertation that explores digital accessibility by analyzing higher education institutions in Colorado. The study finds the most common digital accessibility barriers on the websites of public and private institutions. Private and vocational schools had more accessibility errors. The overall error rate (2.5%) was calculated by comparing a small fraction of inaccessible elements to all the web elements on a webpage. #accessibility https://lnkd.in/g2_i6mJz
