LPI VS comptia Linux +

Linux SysAdmin - IT Consultant

Hi, I have a question. I was interested in getting a LPI certification and I noticed that there is also a comptia linux+ certification, which is "LPI powered". What are the main differences and what does "LPI powered means"? Which one should I go for?

I'll let someone more PC answer what the term means but, from a practical point, it means that, if you obtain the Linux+ cert, you can get your LPIC-1.

    But wait...there's more ;)

With an LPIC-1, you can also get the Novell CLA. This guy cracked it:

More information about Comptia and LPI, from an email received from comptia:

"When CompTIA and LPI launched the Linux+ Powered by LPI certification, LPI asked if we could put in place a method that would allow those who get their Linux+ certification under the CompTIA program to have their certification information sent to LPI (if they choose to do so) so that LPI could send them an LPIC-1 credential as well. CompTIA agreed to put in place a way for candidates to choose that option in their candidate records.
However, this arrangement does not work in the other direction: CompTIA does not provide the Linux+ certification to LPIC-1 certification holders. I’m sorry if that news is disappointing, but that is the way the joint program works. Thank you for your inquiry.

Yes I passed this week with comptia and also received novell cert and lpic1 cert so your better off doing the exam with comptia to get your 3 for 1 certification although it just really looks good on your cv the exams all lead back to lpic1 there is no comptia Linux + level 2 exam so I'll be persuing my lpic2 next

Thanks Christian, I was looking for that information from your email! James, we (very) actively promote that candidates pursue the Linux+ and gain all three certs, the 3-in-1 deal is the most popular conversation topic at shows and presentations these days.

Stay tuned for more CompTIA Linux+ and LPI good stuff this year...

    Hi James,

While studying for the EXAM did you find the Practice Test that comes with the course useful?
