🌍Last week, Axcel Africa had the privilege of participating in Village Capital’s Greentech Africa 2025 program in Nairobi. The program is designed to prepare early-stage African ventures for investment by equipping founders with the tools, networks, and guidance they need to scale. This year’s cohort brought together 10 innovative startups from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa, each tackling urgent challenges in: ☀️Climate resilience ⚡Clean energy 🌱Agriculture ♻️Waste management 🚲Sustainable mobility. We engaged with remarkable companies such as: ・Aqua Hub Kenya, providing smallholder farmers with solar-powered irrigation and post-harvest solutions. ・Twende Green Ecocycle (Mombasa), recycling marine plastic into durable, affordable school furniture. ・Keblink (Senegal), delivering solar-powered cold storage to reduce post-harvest food losses. ・OZ-TECH (Egypt), building AI-powered farming robots tailored for smallholder farmers. ・M-taka (Kenya), a digital platform empowering informal waste pickers and recyclers. What set the session apart was its collaborative format. Instead of pitches, founders engaged directly with mentors, investors, and ecosystem partners to receive candid feedback on critical areas such as customer targeting, product-market fit, and scaling strategies. The discussions were open, honest, and focused on enabling practical next steps for growth. The day concluded with a graduation and networking cocktail, celebrating the progress these ventures have made and the important role they will play in shaping a more sustainable, climate-resilient Africa. At Axcel Africa, we are proud to have been part of these conversations and to continue supporting the entrepreneurs who are driving Africa’s sustainability agenda forward. #GreentechAfrica2025 #VillageCapital #AxcelAfrica #ClimateInnovation #Sustainability Photo: Cohort Graduates posing for a photo

Why would a small-scale farmers’ ambassador and a youth empowerment advocate show up at the Nairobi Climate Tech Summit? Thanks to the invite by EldoHub our great partner in advocating technology and rural empowerment initiatives. Because the future of Africa’s sustainability sector will not be built in isolation, it will be powered by technology, circularity, and people. 💡 Technology is a multiplier. It allows us to reach more people, scale ideas faster, and create exponential impact. But here’s the truth 👉 without building solutions grounded in real African problems post-harvest losses, waste management, youth unemployment, women’s marginalization — tech will remain just another shiny tool. At the summit, I connected with visionary founders already turning challenges into opportunities, and investors seeking to back ideas that can transform lives. One powerful theme echoed throughout: ♻️ Waste to Wealth — the circular economy is not a buzzword; it’s Africa’s ticket to green growth, new jobs, and dignity for our farmers, women, and youth. My walk-away points from the Africa Arena programme: 1️⃣ Green Financing is Rising – Venture capitalists are ready to fund climate-smart startups, but they want clarity on impact + scalability + resilience. 2️⃣ Circular Economy is Africa’s Next Goldmine – From food waste to renewable energy, what we throw away can fuel billion-dollar opportunities. 3️⃣ Youth & Women at the Center – Sustainable change only happens if the next generation and women are not left behind, but leading from the frontlines. 4️⃣ Collaboration Over Competition – Partnerships between startups, corporates, and governments are the only way to unlock continental scale. 5️⃣ From Policy to Practice – Farmers’ voices, grassroots innovators, and everyday realities must guide climate-tech solutions, not just boardroom conversations. I walked away convinced of two things: 🌱 The future belongs to those who see waste as raw material for innovation. ⏩ Leadership means turning obstacles into stepping stones, just like what we are doing as entrepreneurs transforming horticulture space to allow for new revenue streams. 💭 To my network: What has been your experience with venture funds as a startup? How do you balance impact with investor expectations? #ClimateTech #UngaAfrica #FoodSystems #YouthInAgriculture #CircularEconomy #WasteToWealth #GreenGrowth #WomenInAgribusiness #FoodSecurity #AfricaClimateSummit #SustainabilityInAfrica #InnovationInAfrica #AgriTech #ClimateAction #SDGs

The Thrown Everyone Should Own 🚽 Most of us don’t have to think about where we go to the toilet. At worst, it might be a few minutes away, or in a cafe behind a door that requires some un-memorisable code. Even if it’s the biggest abomination to toilets you’ve ever seen - it’s still there. That’s not the case for everyone. In fact, more people in Ghana have access to a smartphone than a toilet at home. So most people go where they can - in the streets or in the bush - where it’s unclean and unsafe; especially for women and children. That’s where WASHKING comes in. Their smart-toilet system can be installed anywhere and accessed through micro-payments that are affordable to most. It even uses a biodigester system that turns waste into compost. Founded by Dieudonne Kwame Agudah, who saw these challenges first-hand, he’s on a mission to provide low-income and underserved communities with access to safe and sustainable sanitation facilities at an affordable price. Toilets are about more than just hygiene - they offer dignity and empowerment. That inspired one of the best impact startup slogans I’ve ever seen - ‘Own Your Throne’. ▶️ Watch their video for the full story. Everyone should live like a king when it comes to sanitation 👑 (Follow along for an inspiring impact solution every day during Global Goals Week 💚) We Make Change #GlobalGoalsWeek #sustainability #impact #sdgs #esg #csr #wash

🌍 How Equality & Freedom Shape Africa's Hemp Journey The Big Idea: If the hemp industry grows but copies old inequalities, it fails. 🚫 Our journey must be PROFITABLE and EQUAL. ♾️ 1. 🚫 Breaking the "Bangi" Stigma The Problem: People lump all cannabis together as "drugs." This creates: ⚖️ Discriminatory Laws: Outdated rules punish hemp farmers like drug dealers. 😔 Social Shame: Farmers face gossip; entrepreneurs can't get loans. 🧠 Ignorance: People don't see hemp's amazing potential for climate, health, and wealth. The Solution: FREEDOM through EDUCATION 🗣️💡 We must FREE THE CROP from this bad reputation with facts, not fear. 2. ⚖️ Ensuring a FAIR "Green Gold Rush" The Danger: A few rich, connected people grab all the opportunities. 😤 We Must Ask: 🏞️ Who Owns the Land? If women and youth can't get land, they can't grow. 📜 Who Gets the License? The process must be transparent & cheap, not just for big corporations. 💰 Who Gets the Money? Banks must lend to small farmers and startups. 🎯 The Goal: A Level Playing Field. This isn't just about getting rich; it's about FAIR ACCESS for all. ♾️ 3. 🙋♀️ Women's Power: The Secret Engine for Growth The Fact: Women are the backbone of African agriculture. 💪 The Opportunity: 💵 Economic Freedom: Hemp = high-value income that women control directly. 👩💼 Leadership: Women as Farm Owners 🌾, CEOs 👩💼, and Ministers 🏛️, not just laborers. 📈 Smarter Growth: Gender equality = a stronger, more innovative industry for everyone. Aligns with AGENDA 2063 🎯: Africa's future DEPENDS on empowering its women. 4. 👨🎤👩🎤 Youth: The Beats of the Green Revolution The Problem: Young people leave villages for cities due to no opportunities. The Solution: 😎 A "COOL" Green Economy: Hemp is sustainable, techy, and modern. It's not your grandfather's farm. 💼 Freedom from Unemployment: Jobs in farming, tech, marketing, fashion—right at home. Let's make hemp the #1 career choice for Africa's brilliant youth! 🚀 5. 🤝 United Africa: A Continental Opportunity The Vision: No country is an island. Kenya can lead, but we all win together. 🌍 How Do We Get This Done? 📝 Harmonized Rules: One set of clear standards for all of Africa equals bigger market, easier trade. 🧠 Knowledge Sharing: Let's share research and wins,Uganda's success is Kenya's success. Breaking down borders 🗺️ to build up our continent. In essence, "we" are collectively building an entirely new agricultural value chain from the ground up. This requires a collaborative effort where each group's success is dependent on the other. We are all one interconnected ecosystem. By understanding and playing our parts, we can grow an industry that is profitable, sustainable, and equitable for all Kenyans. 📢 The Final Call to Action: Let's grow an industry that looks like US. One that is RICH in opportunity, ROOTED in justice, and BUILT on freedom for all🌱♾️. #GreenAndEqual #HempForAfrica #Agenda2063 #WomenInHemp #YouthInAgriculture
