Today, HII and Babcock International Group signed a memorandum of understanding to bring together HII’s REMUS unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and Babcock’s world-leading submarine Weapon Handling and Launch Systems (WHLS). The goal of the collaboration is to deliver autonomous launch and recovery of UUVs via submarine torpedo tubes, strengthening the undersea advantage of allied navies. This is the first program of its kind within the Babcock Mission Systems business. “This partnership demonstrates the promise of pairing Babcock’s handling and launch system technology with the capabilities of HII’s REMUS UUVs to strengthen the undersea advantage of our allies. Pendleton, Oregon is America’s most turnkey UAS test range—and our customers keep proving it. This summer is one of our busiest yet. Here’s a snapshot of what has been proven in August: • Rapid Onboarding and Deployment of Military Training and Testing: We conducted flight and payload training for multiple soldiers, validating payload concepts and long-range data transfers up to 20 miles. After receiving first contact from the organization, we quickly helped plan operations to meet Military and customer needs, held a safety review assessment, mitigated risk, made private land owner agreements, and worked with local officials for maritime operations, to facilitate training needs in less than a week. • Safely Integrated Multiple Types of Aircraft into the Class D Airspace: Balloons, loitering munitions, manned aircraft, and unmanned aircraft all safely flying within the same aerodrome at the same time. Teams tested launch systems, targeting, and automation software while we maintained a deconflicted air/ground picture and demonstrated safe, repeatable mixed operations. • cUAS Validation Under Real Conditions: We supported detection, acquisition, targeting, and non-kinetic mitigation trials. When an aircraft experienced a motor failure on landing, the pre-accident plan executed cleanly—no injuries, no damage—validating and refining safety procedures that raise the bar for safer test environments.
