For Sri Lanka 🇱🇰, effective tax crime investigation is not only about revenue collection, it is about #fairness, #equity, and public #trust. The launch of the joint OECD - OCDE-UNDP Tax Inspectors Without Borders (TIWB) for Criminal Investigations (TIWB-CI) programme with HM Revenue & Customs, took place today at the Inland Revenue Department - Sri Lanka. The programme consists of 3 phases: (i) a self-assessment #survey and onsite workshop using OECD's tax crime investigation maturity model; (ii) the identification of #priority areas and real-time support; as well as (iii) an evaluation and impact #assessment. At the launch were the Commissioner-General of the Inland Revenue Department - Sri Lanka; H.E. Andrew Patrick, High Commissioner, British High Commission in Colombo; Ms Marina T., OIC, UNDP #lka; representatives of HM Revenue & Customs; OECD - OCDE; and Sri Lankan law enforcement agencies. By equipping national institutions with tools to investigate and prosecute #tax crimes, the programme helps safeguard resources for essential services, align taxation with the #SDGs, and rebuild confidence between #citizens and the state.
