When I was at the railway station recently, I noticed this “Foot Over Bridge” sign. At first glance, it may feel unnecessary — after all, the staircase is right in front of us. But there are valid reasons for it: ✅ Helps first-time travelers understand where the stairs lead. ✅ Multilingual text + icon covers diverse passengers. ✅ Acts as a safety reminder not to cross tracks directly. ✅ Makes it easier to locate the staircase from a distance, which otherwise blends into the surroundings. However, the icon design doesn’t communicate clearly. Many mistake it for a tunnel or even a bed. A better visual representation (like stairs + bridge over tracks) would make the sign far more intuitive. Good design is not just about adding a sign — it’s about ensuring it communicates instantly, even without words.

CMYK monoliths 💡 Peter Judson’s latest series of CMYK monoliths explores the shifting line between art and design, transforming colour theory into dynamic audio-visual form. Inspired by both print colour schemes and the internet’s visual culture, the works pulse, collapse, reassemble, and endlessly play with their own structure. The spark came from a meme comparing RGB and CMYK renderings of a piece of salmon nigiri. In RGB, the sushi appeared hyper-vivid; in CMYK, it looked muted and flat. Rather than dismissing the latter, Judson embraced its understated quality, using it as a starting point to interrogate how colour systems shape perception and mood. #Design #Art #Creative
