European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP)’s Post

🌍✨ On this International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to closing the gender disparity in global health research.   🤰👶 We are dedicated to addressing the needs of vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and their children, through inclusive clinical research—14% of EDCTP2 studies focus on these populations.   💪 Additionally, we are making targeted investments to enhance women's participation in our supported activities. Since 2020, we’ve been working to attract more women into health research careers through dedicated PhD fellowships in sub-Saharan Africa. Notably, 40% of EDCTP2 Fellows are women, empowering them as emerging research leaders. A recent bibliometric analysis showed that 40% of co-authors on EDCTP2-funded publications were women, with them leading 55% of the publications.   🌟 Dr Tacilta Nhampossa, an EDCTP Career Development Fellow, led a study to identify strategies for HIV control in pregnant women. She has also been the principal investigator for large EDCTP2-funded trials like MAMAH and MACoV.   🙌 We also celebrate the remarkable contributions of female scientists leading EDCTP2 projects. Professor Eleni Aklillu leads the PROFORMA project, which has generated crucial evidence on the safety and effectiveness of drugs used in mass drug administration in East Africa. Through the project, she has supported the development of many female researchers.   Together, we can #AccelerateAction to create a future that prioritises women’s health and empowers women to lead in health research!   #IWD2025
