The breadth and depth of cutting-edge science at the 1st Helmholtz Health Summit (https://lnkd.in/dtC68rET) was truly amazing! …and should be even more recognized by the public, by policy makers, by industry, and by investors. It also became apparent once more that the major challenge in Germany and Europe remains systematic and rapid translation & transfer of this cutting edge science into tangible outcomes, applications and products for our patients. This requires new formats and initiatives for academia and industry to work hand in hand, translational KPIs other than only judging scientific outputs on publications, and training opportunities for next-generation researchers to foster entrepreneurship and carreer opportunities in this space!

European countries and the EU need a collaborative effort to create a stronger long term vision for how its life science eco system should develop. This is one of the key recommendations in the ‘Attracting Life Science Investments in Europe’ report - an initiative of the BioMed Alliance, EuropaBio and Johnson & Johnson. The size and importance of life science in Europe demands dedicated strategies with a long term perspective, to support the health and wellbeing of patients, and the economy. This report is a debate starter. The findings provide each of the 22 countries included with an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, and can be used as a basis for open debate and constructive discussions with stakeholders and policymakers interested in attracting life science investment to their country. We hope that countries will use it to identify opportunities, commence a debate at national level about what their long term life science vision should be, and ensure that policies are put in place to enable that vision to be realised. Just completed week 1 of the short course on *Laboratory Systems and Public Health in Low Resource Settings (Lab-Sphere)* at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM), in Hamburg, Germany and the experience has been truly transformative! 🌍🔬 The hands-on sessions and collaborative discussions are pushing my **problem-solving** and **critical thinking** skills to new levels, particularly in addressing real-world challenges faced by public health labs in low-resource environments. Making **quick, informed decisions** in such contexts is essential, and the course is giving me practical tools to approach these issues effectively. Highly excited to apply the new skills to back home and continue learning from the experts and my peers. #BNITM #LabSphere #PublicHealth #LaboratorySystems #LowResourceSettings #CriticalThinking #ProblemSolving #GlobalHealth #CapacityBuilding #QuickDecisionMaking
