This Wednesday a T-Minus DART was launched successfully from Launch Complex 3 at Esrange Space Center. Despite the cold conditions of -35 degrees centigrade, the launch crew of T-Minus and Swedish Space Corporation managed to launch the DART rocket containing a PRIME payload made by KTH from the T-Minus mobile launcher. After a nominal motor burn and subsequent booster separation, unfortunately the payloads were deployed prematurely at 12 seconds into the flight. This could be attributed to deteriorated material properties at the extreme cold conditions. Good telemetry was received from this point for more than 2 minutes. Although some procedures were devised to prevent early deployment, time in the campaign did not permit verification of their effectiveness, and it was decided to cancel the second planned launch. Overall, this campaign was very successful, and a lot of very valuable information was gained from it. Most importantly, correct functioning of the DART motor in extreme cold conditions was proven. We are looking back to a very fruitful cooperation at Esrange with both SSC and KTH, and we're looking forward to continuing this in future launch campaigns.
Great to see your progress.
Congrats to that milestone! A huge success and a lot of new insights and gained knowledge! All the best to the post campaign work and investigation…

6moSorry to hear about the premature ejectoactuation, (happens to the best it seems ;-) ) but it looks as if major steps have been taken to the verification of the entire system. At least launching temperature limit is shown not to be a real issue. Next time a launch at +35°C and I guess you will have covered the full range to be expected.
