To solve the world’s most pressing problems, we need to understand women’s experiences on them and women need to be included in the solutions. The #AfriPlasticsChallenge finalists have been working hard over the last 18 months in developing their #genderinclusive solutions to #plasticwaste. Throughout the entry period, the Discovery webinar series will have free online sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 12 noon (GMT). The series is designed to support organisations of all types and backgrounds to discover the water sector and its challenges whilst developing a strong entry into the Water Discovery Challenge. The Water Discovery Challenge is a £4 million competition that will reward each winner with up to £500,000 each to develop bold and ingenious innovations that can help the water sector face challenges such as structural resilience, climate change, customer vulnerability and more. The upcoming sessions in the Discovery webinar series are: 🔍 Discover the water sector (Tuesday 31 January) - An introduction to the structure of the water sector in the UK with a focus on England and Wales. The session will also explore the key players and wider innovation ecosystem landscape and touch on innovation challenges and opportunities. ✨ Discover innovation opportunities (Thursday 2 February) - In this webinar, we will discuss some of the biggest opportunities for innovation within the sector. This includes an introduction to many of the challenges the industry is facing, a look at the kind of solutions that are most desirable, and real-world examples from elsewhere that the sector could learn from. Check out our Water Discovery Challenge coverage featuring our director, Holly Jamieson. The new Water Discovery Challenge is incentivising ideas from, and led by, those outside of the water sector. It is seeking solutions from industries dealing with similar challenges to those faced by the water sector, or implementing solutions that could benefit water and wastewater services in England and Wales – with no requirement for entrants to partner with a water company. The goal is to open the sector to new ground-breaking insights and thinking that benefit consumers and the environment.  Up to 20 teams of the most promising innovators will be awarded up to £50,000 to develop their ideas, with expert support and mentoring from water companies.
