Chief Human Resources Officer at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals

Below is a note to Alnylam yesterday from me. Alnylam stands for every woman’s right to control and make choices regarding their own bodies. Yesterday’s Supreme Court decision is devastating, a regression of women’s rights and scary as to what more could come. I’m so proud to lead within an organization that is willing to stand up unabashedly for what we believe. Dear all, As many of you likely already know, the Supreme Court of the United States made the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, holding that there is no longer a federal constitutional right to an abortion. As a result, a number of states have already expressed their intent to make abortion illegal in the coming days and weeks. At Alnylam, we believe that women should have access to the full range of reproductive health care services, including abortion. We believe that everyone has the basic human right to decide when and whether to have children. We want to reaffirm that abortion is covered in both of our health plans and that we are working with our provider, xxx to add in a transportation benefit for any covered individual who needs to travel outside of their home state for services. In the meantime, we will cover all travel expenses outside of the plan until xxxx can update their policies to align. If you have any questions regarding your health care coverage, please feel free to contact xxx. Kind regards, Kelley

I appreciate your thoughts and concerns and respect your opinion. I would like to address one of the above premises. The SCOTUS decision on ROE v Wade does not change the fact the you still have the “basic human right to decide when and whether to have children”. That right and choice still exists today.

NKarta stands with Alnylam on this health issue....MEN ought to let women define this space, support them and not define it for them, IMO

The SCOTUS decision actually determined that there was NEVER federal constitutional right to an abortion, not that it was "no longer." The right to murder their unborn and recently born children still exists but it must be decided at the state level, as it always should have been. Our Constitution provides for federal control of an extremely limited set of things and this, as with everything else that is not on that list, is something that must be decided by the individual states.
