Wiebe Boer, Ph.D.’s Post
It has come to my attention that posters implying that I am running for Governor of Plateau State under the name of Yohanna Maigona have gone viral. I am categorically stating that I have no intention of running for political office in Nigeria, and I am not eligible to do so. The only truth to the insinuation is that I was born in Jos and raised in Taraba and Plateau States to Dutch missionary parents and have spent the last 12 years living in Lagos and serving Nigeria and Nigerians in various capacities. I have always been a staunch believer in the potential of Nigeria and will continue to support the country’s development from the sidelines.

Had another memorable visit to my hometown of Jos, Nigeria 🇳🇬. It was a packed week that included: — meeting with the team of The AKÉ Collective, an agriculture company I’ve invested in personally, — attending Sim Shagaya ‘s wedding, — speaking to students at my secondary school Hillcrest School , — visiting my farm land in Kwall with James Kpanto and family, — catching up with friends and family, — a jam session with Jesse Jagz, — reconnecting with the team from AfriOne, an ICT company I co-founded 20 years ago, — connecting with the team and some fans of Plateau United, — appearing on Radio Plateau / Peace FM 90.5 as YOHANNA MAIGONA for the first time in 25 years — and so much more…and apparently subsequently being introduced mysteriously as a political candidate. Jos is a special place that has lost some of its shine over the last two decades, but the beauty, talent, and energy is still there. It was nice to see and hear about growth in key sectors like mining, tourism, manufacturing, and agriculture as well as cautious optimism about a brighter future for the city of Jos and the entire Plateau State. May it come to pass.
